Wonder how this will effect the tourist industry? Won't be good for mom and pop restaurants.

Many of the mom-and-pop places are already destroyed by the lockdowns. Yeah, the "economy" opened now, but too late for many. If another lockdown is pulled, that'll be it for the rest. All we see now is window dressing.

Starting next fall, Florida unemployment will rise.
Minimum wage sounds good, but it will kill many entry level positions.
Restaurant prices will go up, as will food prices.

Socialism will not be rejected in America until it has run its course and ruined the country and countless lives.

The people that will benefit from this most are the people who make the kiosks that will replace many of these entry level jobs.

They have the Kiosks @ Micky Ds and the self checkout @ Wally World, now they have an anamatronic burger flipper (see video)... Florida will become California East in no time flat.

Growing up in St Pete in the late 60s early 70s, I've watched this happen many times. The prices go up, and everything's right back where we were. Minimum wage jobs are not a career, but a starting point.

Way ahead of the curve on this. My employer has been working on this for a while.

This. Driving it up will in the long run give rise to inflation as the ever so slight increase in the segment’s discretionary income will drive up demand and thus prices. Higher prices for everything means minimum wagers will still not afford squat. Also, the increase will have an immediate effect on labor costs which is passed on as well. Nobody benefits. Economists have mostly poo pooed these initiatives.

Essilor had a line of P-n-P robots, called S/F2000. When I got hired there those robots were at the end of their mechanical lives.
The maintenance staff removed them and put back the manual line. I was a part of the team that sent Larry, Moe and Curly to the junkyard.
Where that factory once stood there is now a stripmall. If you are in St Pete you know where on Park St I'm talking about.
That factory has gone to Mexico, thanks to NAFTA.
