I've been doing research on it since last night and the general consensus is that to equal the benefit of the eye drops that they prescribe you would have to smoke between 8 and 10 joints per day.

I've tried some of the lab grown shit that is going around these days and it makes the stuff we enjoyed in the 70's look like Bugler or Prince Albert.

8 or 10 joints would put you in a coma.

Pleae explain the "research" THC6969.... :)

Glaucoma happens to be one of the first medical illness whereupon ingesting marihoochie has been proven medically to relieve patient's symptoms....way before the benifits for cancer/chemo patients was known.

The Glaucoma court cases go way back....late 70s early 80s...google if you wish.....
Case law set from a Floriduh resident!

I lived the era....done more research way back than global warming alarmist do today.

The wacky tabacky being cultivated right here in the good old US of A (who'dda thunk) TODAY is like Bulaga Caviar.
The finest.

From my "limited research"

One of the commonly discussed alternatives for the treatment of glaucoma is the smoking of marijuana, because smoking marijuana does lower the eye pressure. Less often appreciated is the fact that marijuana's effect on eye pressure only lasts 3-4 hours, meaning that to lower the eye pressure around the clock it would have to be smoked 6-8 times a day.

Cannabis and currently available compounds derived from marijuana – like CBD – are not an adequate treatment for glaucoma, or any eye condition. To treat glaucoma, eye pressure must be managed 24 hours a day. Marijuana is not a practical treatment for constant use. And more research is still needed into the exact effects of cannabis and cannabis compounds on eye pressure and glaucoma.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology does not recommend marijuana or other cannabis products for the treatment of glaucoma. The American Glaucoma Society and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society agree.

Some myths die hard—like the one about marijuana as a treatment for glaucoma patients.

A complex eye condition that damages the optic nerve over time, Glaucoma can reduce peripheral vision and lead to blindness if untreated. The disease, which affects 3 million Americans, is characterized by elevated pressure within the eye (known as intraocular pressure or IOP).

For decades the only way to control glaucoma and lower IOP levels has been medication, such as prescription eye drops, or surgery—depending on the type of glaucoma and how severe it is. So when studies conducted in the 1970s showed that smoking marijuana appeared to lower the IOP of people with glaucoma, hopes were . . . high.

The results prompted the National Eye Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health, to fund research examining whether marijuana or its active ingredient, the compound known as THC, could be safely used to keep IOP lowered. They concurred that when subjects smoke marijuana or take a form of THC as a pill or by injection, it does lower IOP. But only for a short period—three to four hours. And that’s a major drawback.

Many patients inquire about the use of marijuana for their uncontrolled glaucoma, especially in the setting of increased legalization in many states. In this article, Dr. Graul discusses various limitations of this Schedule I drug for long-term treatment of glaucoma, including its short duration of action, cost, ocular side effects, general health risks, and high potential for abuse. Patients should be counseled and informed about the lack of any scientific evidence demonstrating superiority of cannabis over other currently available pharmaceutical agents for glaucoma that are already approved by the FDA and extensively studied.

Downsides of Smoking Marijuana

Scientists have found that marijuana does lower eye pressure but the effects only last for 3 or 4 hours. This means that to lower eye pressure adequately, marijuana would have to be smoked every 3 hours.

Because marijuana causes mood-altering effects, smoking it every 3-4 hours would be impossible for people who drive for a living, operate heavy machinery, or have jobs that require close attention to detail.

Also of great concern is that marijuana cigarettes contain chemical compounds that can damage the lungs similar to regular tobacco cigarette smoking. Studies also show that chronic use of marijuana can have unwanted and sometimes permanent effects on brain function.

Ahhhhh,
So called "studies", just like polls can be skewed to favor whatever the person or entity paying for said study is intending on using the "research" for...

Just a thought....

Then there must be an equal number of "Skewed Studies" out there supporting the other side of the argument but I cant seem to find any.

There's been more than a few studies in respectable trade journals that document how chronic marijuana use can lead to impaired brain functions, especially in minors whos brains have not finished developing (which is generally around the age of 25).
