Puerto Rico doesn't want statehood.
They've had votes on it in the past.
The only people that want it live here in the states.
That's who votes for these idiots.

If PR was a state it would be worse than Cali.

Puerto Ricans have voted for statehood the last few elections. Puerto Rican Statehood is a Republican Party plank. Continued Commonwealth Status is a Democrat Party plank. Independence is a fringe group in PR and numbers in the few thousands out of the 3 million that live there. And most that support independence are Marxist agents trained by Cuban Intelligence.

As for taxes, they are taxed. It is collected by the territorial government and that government exists solely at the behest of Congress since Congress can directly override and dismantle the territorial government at a whim.

Additionally, the tax status in PR and USVI was established by Congress so American businesses and political elites can stay within the US but have a tax heaven for Caribbean Villas and businesses. All the judges in SCOTUS have properties in PR or the USVI. As do many members of Congress.

The federal taxes paid by Puerto Rico residents include import/export taxes, federal commodity taxes, and they also pay federal payroll taxes, such as Social Security and Medicare taxes. Income tax is not collected by the Federal government but instead by the Territorial government. And since the Federal government has direct rule over Puerto Rico and can dissolve the Territorial government at any time. It is really all done so Congress can have a tax shelter. The same was setup with the US Virgin Islands.

Wrong.... the elections were in Puerto Rico... not in the Mainland and the last two have been in favor of Statehood.

PR has a LARGE conservative movement and just like here in the mainland they are low key unlike the left leaning liberals and socialist. They WANT statehood and is holding them up is- YOU GUESSED IT, this impeachment BS! The Dems know that this is a Conservative agenda and as such pushed it to the back burner to hopefully fizzle out. Many of you would think that the island is full of liberals that will lean towards the democratic party but that is false. The islanders want what mainland Citizens take for granted and that is full Citizenship. While Puerto Ricans can serve and die for the our nation they cannot go back home and vote for the President, nor do they have true representation in the House and none in the Senate.

The dems do not want PR to be a state due to possibly losing votes by PR voters here on the mainland and the addition of maybe 1.5 Million Conservative voters on the island proper. The best thing that #45 can do is go public and push for PR statehood, this will increase his fanbase on the island and more importantly here on the mainland pushing more hispanic voters to go conservative in 2020.

Yup, the Insular Cases are a travesty. Claiming that the Constitution does not follow the Flag. As such, any American living in a Territory doesn't have full Constitutional Rights. No 1st Amendment, 2nd Amendment, 4th Amendment, 5th Amendment, etc...

Exactly! it doesn't matter if you were born on the mainland- If you now live in and claim residency in one of these "commonwealths" you lose your chance to vote for the President, and have no real rights under the constitution. You are now a 2nd class citizen, and citizen in name only but not equal rights as those on the mainland.

As the originator of this thread, let me be blunt: I don't want any more sure-to-be liberal House members and electoral college voters and, worst of all, Senators. Beyond that I don't give AF. So on that basis alone I don't want PR as a state. As it is I would love to cut loose some states we already have.
