Try Jesto transmissions on Cypress Street, near Dale Mabry. Unlike other shops, he will give you a firm quote up front instead of the ole "$300 plus parts once we get it apart." Any decent rebuilder knows exactly what parts they need to replace in order to warranty any work. The whole idea is to get you on the hook, and your car apart, then hit you with a higher price.

Tim Moye Transmission in Lutz. Just north of where Florida and Nebraska merge. 2nd generation family owned shop. The mechanic I used when I lived in Tampa would send transmission work there, including his own father's truck. Not the cheapest, but the best and most honest that I've ever dealt with.
