Havent fought that battle yet, but It very well may win it, yes.

I really wont know until I get the front sight on. There may not be enough room to slide the front band all the way over (forward) the bayonet lug without hitting the front sight.

If thats the case, you could never separate the barreled receiver from the stock unless you removed the front sight.

Really gonna have to see how that all plays out. And figure out a front sling mount as well, but that may just be as simple as screwing a stud into the bottom of the wood.

Getting this mocked up. Still a lot of work to do, but its coming together.

CETME kit, US barrel shortened to 14.5 with a three lug adapter to get to an overall length of 16.1" , some clapped out HK furniture and a PTR flat

Not a parts kit anymore.

Moderately happy with how this came out. First gun build using a TIG welder, and it shows. There's definitely a learning curve to using it.

Got this all put together, was able to put a few rounds through it yesterday and make sure it runs, and it seems alright.

A collection of photos taken throughout the process.

Very cool. That looks like a complicated gun to build.

It's really not that bad.

They're pretty simple and for a design thats been around since the 1960's, built on a piece of bent sheet metal it really makes we wonder why these things cost $2K....

2k seems like it may be a deal, There are kits alone on GB ranging in the 1500 to 3500 range
