Cracking Down on Ghosts

"This proposed rule would help keep guns out of the wrong hands and make it easier for law enforcement to trace guns used to commit violent crimes," said Attorney General Merrick Garland in a statement.

"Although this rulemaking will solve only one aspect of the problem, we have an obligation to do our part to keep our families and our neighborhoods safe from gun violence."

Prices are already dropping from on line vendors. They don’t want to be stuck with inventory they can’t sell. GARY.

Yeah, I was going to say braces and 80% kits are being ad targeted with "sales" from almost every vendor. Oddly they aren't as cheap as the sales of these things when things were really slow 2-3 years ago. The ban of bump stocks has made everyone realize that some things are not going to get grandfathered in. On a state level I'm even losing hope that I can un-lose my old binaries.

They will also be requiring the serializing of all frame parts. Get ready for "pre-ban slides and uppers".

The proposed rule is 115 pages:

"Further, this NPRM proposes new terms and definitions to take
into account technological developments and modern terminology in the firearms

firearms at home without markings solely for personal use (not for sale or distribution) in
accordance with Federal, State, and local law

So....3d printed stuff apparently will be exempt from all this?

More ATF bullshit wrote:
Nonetheless, this amendment is not intended to affect the classification of a
weapon, including a weapon parts kit, in which each frame or receiver (as defined in this
proposed rule) of such weapon is properly destroyed in accordance with ATF standards.
Because such weapons have been completely destroyed or permanently redesigned not to
expel a projectile by the action of an explosive, and cannot readily be converted to do so,
ATF would not consider them as either “designed to” or “readily assembled, completed,
converted, or restored to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive.” To make this
clear, this proposed rule would add another sentence to the end of the definition of
“firearm” in 27 CFR 478.11 to provide that “[t]he term shall not include a weapon,
including a weapon parts kit, in which each part defined as a frame or receiver of such
weapon is destroyed.”
So parts kits with a cut/demil receiver will be exempt from being "firearms"?

But it is unclear how much serialized guns help law enforcement bring criminals to justice. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) claims it used serial numbers to "process" requests to trace 450,000 guns in 2019. But it has never released figures on how many gun serial number traces have led to an arrest.

If traces were working they'd be bragging about it.

The executive actions Biden issued last month essentially called on agencies in his administration to tighten up regulations and compile reports. Among the actions Biden took, he wants to

Crack down on homemade firearms, which some hold as a historical American tradition;
Make pistol stabilizers subject to the National Firearms Act, which would put them in the same category as machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, and grenades;
Develop so-called model "red flag" laws that would allow states to strip gun owners of their firearms without due process if they were thought to be a danger to themselves or others; and
Nominate to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives an individual who has been described as a "fierce advocate for gun control."

Nothing to add to this?

Circumventing due process is a gross violation of the Constitution. How in the hell is it no one has sued the F* out of the feds over this by now?
