Drunk drivers say the strangest things

Post by Firemedic2000 »

A preacher was driving home from church one Sunday afternoon when he noticed the car in front of him swerving all over the road. Thinking he was probably drunk and it was a mountainous area, the preacher thought it would be wise to drive close to him in case he runs off the road and he'd be able to see where he went down off the mountain.

Suddenly the driver swerved and hit the preachers car causing the preacher to run off the road and down the mountain. The drunk driver stops, gets out and yells to the preacher "Are you okay?" The preacher replies "I'm fine, I have the Lord with me." The drunk driver replies "You better let Him drive with me, you're gonna kill Him!"

True story;
A buddy of mine when he was younger and dumber, decided to walk (stumble) home from a bar after getting hammered.
The cops saw him staggering along and ended up arresting him for public drunkeness.
He replied "I guess I should have drove home"!

Some times you just can't win!

Strange isn't how you try to be responsible and not drive drunk and walk home and they still will arrest you. :roll:

It's for your own safety :?

Back in the day. The officer would have put you in the back of the car and driven you home. For at least trying to be smart. But that was when towns like PLANT CITY was small and most officers you went to school with and knew everyone.

This amazes me. Back in the day, I was not the most responsible youth... I was given an escort via the back of a patrol car home on more than one occasion... Flash forward 25 years or so to me as owner of a Health and fitness center in Lee County. A young member of about 20 or 22 years of age related story to me about how he, as a new motorcyclist went and met with some friends at a local pub. Not really thinking about it he had a beer or two and then realized that he probably shouldn't be riding. He went and surveyed his friends, trying to solicit a ride home. He discovered that for the most part, they were all quite intoxicated. He decided that his best option was to walk the five miles home. When a local police officer stopped him on a rural road after 2 a.m. and asked him if he had been drinking, he honestly replied that, yes he had and related his predicament. Upon hearing that he had consumed alcohol and felt that he was unsafe to operate a motorcycle, the officer arrested him for public drunkenness. When I related the story to a LEO friend of mine, he told me that the officer had no choice. He had made contact and the young gentleman who stated that he was drinking The officer took him into custody because if anything happened to my young friend, and the officer had released him, the department would have been liable. When I asked him about just delivering him home, he further stated that if anything had happened at home, a domestic violence event or some such, the department would have been liable. Chalk one up for our overly litigious Society...

What B.S. it's no different than taking a taxi home after a few. Instead you walk. But nooo they will arrest you for that also. This is why I absolutely do not trust L.E.O.s because anything you say will be used against you to arrest you. Gotta make that money from fines ect.

But I guess that really depends on location and most importantly the officer. :x
We've as firefighters have given people rides home that were to drunk to drive. If they were nice about it.

We saw one guy staggering once and were bored. He was a nice guy. So for his safety. We gave him a lift home. Not to jail.

Police say do not drink and drive. OK you had a few so you decide to walk home. Then they still arrest you. This really angers me.
