Any other 1911 addicts here?

Post by Mohel_Knives »

Since my departure, I caught a case of 1911itis!
It is of the Springfield strain! I had two others but parted with them for project cash. The top two are A Range Officer Operator and a Range Officer Compact both in 9mm. The Grey and black bottom is a Combat Operator with a Joe Chambers trigger job in it. The other is a GI completely rebuilt by Joe Chambers and Chuck Rogers. It is an amazing gun.

Over the years I have had around 15 1911's.
Still have 3.5.
The .5 is a Browning 1911-2.2.

I've only had three 1911s.
Two Colts (38 super and a .45 Gold Cup) and two Springfields (.45acp GI and MIlspec).
All 70s series.
One of these days, I intend to get a 9mm version.
And that should do it for the duration.

I have 2.5 Kimbers. Ultra Carry II & a Custom Pro Carry II. The .5 is a Kimber .22 conversion slide. Used to have a 5" Llama but it would barely hit paper at 10 yrds or more so I sold it years ago.

Hadn't owned a 1911 in over 30 years....until a few weeks ago.
Just bought a new Kimber Custom Stainless Raptor II. Looks like I may now need to add an Ultra II model in the near future.

I've been shooting 1911/1911A1/Government model pistols since 1978. First one was my father's 1960's Colt Government model in 45ACP on which I learned to shoot pistols. I purchased my first 1911 from Springfield Armory around 1987 when I purchased their 1911 "kit" plus a frame that I put together at home and then a year later I purchased a Colt Government model in 45ACP. In all I've had over 30 different 1911/1911A1 style pistols in 9mm, 38 Super, 9x23mm and 10mm ranging from Kimber Ultra Carry to AMT long-slide size but most were 45 ACP in 5" Government model size. Most of mine were commercial pistols from Springfield, Norinco, Colt and Kimber but I also had few custom pistols from Rock River, Ed Brown and Wilson. I started carrying one in 1989 and continued on and off until 2007. I've used them to compete in IDPA,IPSC, bowling pin, bullseye and even in few metallic silhouette matches with them. For few years I was shooting 250-300 rounds of 45ACP every week through one of my 1911/1911A1 style pistols. I was loading 45ACP round by thousands on my Dillon press and ordering components by tens of thousands from John's Precision Casting in Titusville. I still have few hundred pounds of John's 200gr SWC cast bullets in my garage. These days I'm down to 8 or 9 different ones from Kimber, Colt and parts gun in 9mm and 45ACP plus a pair of their cousin...Browning Hi-Power. I don't shoot them much now so they sit in the safe waiting for my son to grow up and "discover" the 1911 pistol.
Yes, I guess you can say I was a 1911 addict ;)
