Re: Retirement communities
I’m in Golden Lakes Village which is one mile west of Century Village in West Palm Beach. Plenty going on here. Lots of great restaurants close by, plenty of Walmarts, & Publix grocery stores. Oh, plenty of gun stores too. 1/2 mile from the Turnpike, & a few miles from I-95. GARY. Thanks fo...

Retirement communities
Anyone familiar with active 55+ communities in Broward or Palm Beach County, other than all the timeworn jokes about Cemetery Village, etc? To be honest, when I lived in Pompano Beach back in the 1980s, I was guilty of making some of the same jokes myself. Times change, though. I’m 79 years old, and...

. . . .As for selecting "Nessun Dorma," I think they did that because it would be one of the very few arias that the modern day "AGT voting audience" would recognize, given the popularity of Pavaroti's cover. and hitting that one "Vincera" high note probably sealed it ...

Re: Out of curiosity . . .
When one mentions Caruso and "Rigoletto", can't leave out Amelita Galli Curci. Beyond opera, there is the "Bel Canto" era, which sadly is gone forever. The Philistines have taken over, and are trying to grind further. Galli-Curci, now there's a name that conjures up a memory. Wh...

Re: Out of curiosity . . .
I wonder how great Björling would sound with more modern recording capabilities than those of the 1950s. I never got to hear him live, only Turandot was with Pavarotti. Bjoerling's recordings from the 1950s stand up pretty well, especially when played over a decent system. If you haven't done so al...

Re: Out of curiosity . . .
Thanks for the replies. RedinFL, Gilbert and Sullivan I remember having rammed down our throats at the very proper English grammar school I attended back in the 1950s, the kind of place where the teachers looked like vampires in their flowing black robes. Fortunately, I managed to get expelled by th...

Re: Time to invoke 25th Amendment
Tector, you're spot on with the age thing. If my 79-year-old memory works, there's a minimum age for being elected president of 35. There should be a maximum age as well, perhaps 60. Certainly not past that.
