Wisconsin reciprocal carry

State and national practical & political discussions on legal open, concealed and vehicle carry.

Wisconsin reciprocal carry

Postby Jarhead05 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 6:19 pm

Wisconsin's new concealed carry law takes effect 1 November (next Tuesday).

The WI Dept of Justice just released the list of states whose carry licenses they will recognize. At this time Florida is NOT on that list:

Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands

I suspect the issue revolves around Florida';s background check not meeting Wisconsin standards (WI requires a successful NICS check). More when I have a chance to check on it.

Liberal idiots in Wisconsin are scared to death of this new concealed carry. Major pushback from the socialist liberal pigs in Madison. Disgusting in a state that trusts thousands upon thousands of deer hunters to carry high power rifles all around the state 3 months out of the year with barely any issues for the past 100 years. No, like most other states, it's just a couple of cities, in this case Milwaukee and Madison. Wisconsin TWICE passed concealed carry over the past ten years, only to have Democrat governor Jim Doyle veto the bills. Then AG Van Hollen issued a formal opinion that open carry is perfectly legal (hear that, Florida Sheriffs Association?) and suddenly concealed carry became palatable. The state's new Republican governor helped!

Unfortunately, in several states, the political machine is controlled by one or two cities. NYC in New York, LA and San Francisco in CA, Chicago in IL, KC and St Louis in MO, Seattle in WA, etc. (Although on guns, Washington is far ahead of most states -- shall issue concealed carry since 1961, state preemption since 1983, etc. And it's an open carry state.

Yet I can't put a suppressor on a firearm or own a SBR or SBS.

Not quite, FL Cowboy. Washington opened the door to registered suppressors last year, and next year will run a bill to reopen the door to SBRs and SBSs. That one only went away in 1994, when Democrats controlled 2/3 of both houses of the legislature and the governor's mansion.

And if you had been savvy enough to buy that SBR or SABS before 1994, it was grandfathered. Along with automatic weapons.

You were already ten? Why didn't you already have them? :-)

But yeah, I know how that works. I got my first FFL in 1965 at age 19 -- I could buy a truckload of handguns from a manufacturer or wholesaler, but couldn't legally purchase one from an FFL in my home state. Back then they were $1/year, renewable annually.
