Winchester Model 70 featherweight

Postby bigjim07 » Thu May 19, 2011 8:33 pm

I was left a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 30.06 by my uncle in his will. I know he bought it in the 1980's. It has a nikon 3x9 scope on it. Being a handgun guy I'm trying to figure out what it's worth. Any help? Looks to be in very good shape. Nice wood leather sling.

I've been watching Gunbroker for the last few weeks for a hunting rifle for a coworker that wants me to teach him to hunt. I've seen several like that go for $300-350 without scope. That particular scope may add about $50 to the value unless it is one of the newer and higher end Nikons.

Do as you may. But I would keep it since you inherited from your late uncle. Not to mention those are like a folk classic. :ber

The Win. model 70 is known as 'the' shooters rifle, (based on the Mauser action) your Uncle knew his stuff.
Do some research on this, you may get a pleasant surprise.

That would correctly be "the riflemans rifle"......

Also,only the Pre-64 were Mauser type. Post-64 switched to a push feed,like a R700.

I love model 70's and have had more than a few rifles built off them. There is merit and quality to both actions (CF/PF)

Starting in 1980 though, they were manufactured by USRA. Winchester granted use of it's name.

That being said, your rifle is neither valuble nor particularly sought after, albeit a great shooter.

Your GlockTalk price would be on the maximum high end of the scale IMO.

Good luck.

A model 70 is a damn fine rifle! Mine's a stealth II action, its got a hybrid CRPF action. OP, hold onto it, maybe even rebuild it!

My first hunting rifle was a model 70 lightweight . You cannot beat the model 70's.
