upcoming M14 build

Postby flcracker » Wed Jul 06, 2011 6:29 pm

I've been cleaning out my parts bins and came to the realization that I have another complete M14 parts set, so I'm going to get it sent off and built by Tim Strait @ Warbird's Custom Guns. He did my first M14 and my NM M1 builds.

http://www.warbirdscustomguns.com/

Buy your parts one here, a couple there.... after a few years you'll surprise yourself with a whole new rifle!

********************************************************************************************************************************************
Here's the breakdown:

Standard rack-grade assembly - $175
Complete parkerizing to make it all match - $150
Plus re-finishing the gas system for $20
And bevel the bolt stop roll pin hole for $20
Return shipping UPS insured - $30

For a total of $175 + $150 + $20 + $20 + $30 UPS = $395

Here is a list of everything I have – please let me know if you see anything that I’m missing:

LRB receiver
Sadlak titanium scope mount w/ hardware
Criterion chrome lined 18” barrel purchased from LRB
USGI fiberglass stock – reinforced fore-end, “Blackhawk Down” camo by Karsten http://www.imageseek.com/karsten/
SEI Vortex flash hider
SEI “Navy” hooded gas lock front sight
Rear sight assembly – complete – SA windage knob, WCE elevation knob (meters)
TRW op rod - new
Op rod spring
USGI Op rod guide
Sadlak NM spring guide
USGI connector pin
USGI gas system – previously unitized by Warbird
USGI gas piston - new
TRW bolt – new, complete
SEI extended bolt stop w/ pin
Two complete trigger groups

No connector pin retaining pin
No bolt stop spring
********************************************************************************************************************************************

There ain't no way I could (or would) spring for a complete rifle now - but I've been gathering these parts over the past 5 - 8 years. So now all I need to do is figure out what I'm going to sell out of the safe to pay for the build! [smilie=pdt_xtremez_13.gif]
and some rin up hill and down dale, knapping the chucky stanes to pieces wi' hammers, like sae mony road-makers run daft... to see how the warld was made!

Sounds like a nice build!

Tim can do some nice stuff. He parked a 308 Garand for me yrs ago. Top drawer! Hard to get hold of sometimes, tho.

I shot that rifle a couple of weeks ago, and got solid 1 MOA at 200 yards. And that is with an old Wilson barrel!
When do I get some stimulation in this economy??

Yee-haw and Oh Happy Day!!! [smilie=pdt_xtremez_30.gif] [smilie=011.gif]

She arrived yesterday. Tight and sweet, with Warbird's excellent park'ing work and attention to detail from stem to stern.

This looks great, how much does it weigh without options?

I so want to build a setup like that, just with my own specs on barrel and stock.

Totally dressed with scope & a loaded mag, right at 15 pounds.

Knock off 2# for a loaded mag, and another 2# for the scope & bi-pod gets her down to 11#. The score mount is titanium so it's just a couple ounces. That particular fiberglass stock has some extra reinforcement in the forearm - my wood stocks are a bit lighter.

I put a Leupold MkIV MR/T 3~9x30mm illum mildot on it that I got a great deal on barely used from a member here.

I have a couple other fiberglass and wood stocks for this and my as-issued TRW build. One of the fiberglass stocks is getting drilled for an adjustable cheek piece soon.
