Trunk Rifle?

Is it legal to have a trunk rifle on your truck or car all the time?
I hear lots of people talking about keeping a rifle on their vehicles all the time in case TSHTF and I wonder if is legal. :-k

Yes and it doesn't need to be securely encased nor not readily accessable. Of course, common sense should dictate that it shouldn't be easily seen by anybody or you may find it missing.

790.25(5) POSSESSION IN PRIVATE CONVEYANCE.—Notwithstanding subsection (2), it is lawful and is not a violation of s. 790.01 for a person 18 years of age or older to possess a concealed firearm or other weapon for self-defense or other lawful purpose within the interior of a private conveyance, without a license, if the firearm or other weapon is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use. Nothing herein contained prohibits the carrying of a legal firearm other than a handgun anywhere in a private conveyance when such firearm is being carried for a lawful use. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize the carrying of a concealed firearm or other weapon on the person. This subsection shall be liberally construed in favor of the lawful use, ownership, and possession of firearms and other weaponsit , including lawful self-defense as provided in s. 776.012.

There are no conditions. Loaded. Unloaded. Cased. Uncased. Next to you. Not next to you.

So just keep one of the Kel-Tec folding carbines velcroed to your inside roof and you are GTG!

just leave a couple of targets in the back next to your gun, either tell them you heading to the range later or just coming from the range =:bye

why would I keep a gun in the trunk where I keep my victims? [smilie=011.gif] JUST KIDDING alphabet agency. As said it is perfectly legal and Rent has a good idea with the targets.

There are roof racks available that do a much better job than velcro!

I ran/managed a Pawn/Gun shop in a not so nice area of town for a while and kept a 12ga riot gun behind the seat of my truck.

If there were suspicious vehicles or people hanging out when I arrived to open up I always pulled and carried the shotgun in with me. I figured the CCW on my hip was good protection, but a 12ga in my hand was a great deterrent.

answer : I went to the range earlier and haven't been home to take the stuff out
or
I heading to the range bright and early tomorrow and like to prepare

either one, but without targets your story it a little less believable :-k

Something I'm surprised hasn't been brought up related to this topic: what business does an officer have going into your trunk in the first place? Not without probable cause. And no one on this list would grant a consent search, would they?

"Officer, there is nothing illegal in my car." End of discussion.

"Are you hiding something, are you afraid of what I might find?" says the intrepid officer.

"Not at all, but my family attorney has advised me in principal to exercise my Fourth Amendment rights and not consent to a search."

"Well, I might just hold you here until I can get a drug dog here to inspect your car."

"Again, unless you are arresting me, I'll be on my way."
