Tire Balancing Beads

Postby 2013FLCA » Mon Feb 20, 2012 3:59 pm

Has anybody ever used these or something similar? The concept sounds good with the condition of the roads around here and tire balancing seeming to last only until you hit the first "good" pothole. They supposedly are constantly adjusting the balance and give you longer tire wear.

This is a link to one of the suppliers I found online...I'm not trying to recommend them or sell them, just looking for input from anybody with experience with them or something similar. http://www.innovativebalancing.com

Many years ago running big tires on Jeeps we tried a couple of different ones and didn't like them.

No different than the old school "sand bags" that would throw in a dump truck/semi or in big mud tires. Neonnight said it best, they suck as slow speeds.

For a mud truck that goes on the highway for time to time they work ok but for an everyday pass anger car/truck you best off with normal (soon to be lead free) weight and regular rotation and re-balance, Just make sure they knock the old weight off and dont just add on new weight

I spent almost 30 years in the auto parts business and something like that popped up every few years, lasted a few weeks and then faded away.

The biggest problem was, it simply didn't work!

I have not tried those, but I did try airsoft pellets. I used innovative's charts as a guide for how many to use in each tire. I didn't use enough and it really didn't help with balancing at all. I needed to use another cup per tire (33x15.5x15 Super Swampers). The airsoft beads won't fit through the valve stem like the actual dynabeads so you have to break the bead to add more and I was just too lazy lol.

You'll get odd looks at stop lights though. When you slow down enough all of the beads will fall to the bottom and you can hear it outside.

Isaac Newton is probably spinning in his grave at this attempt to violate his laws. And the vibration you feel is because Sir Isaac's potbelly makes his center of gravity a little off his spin axis.

Thanks for the replies...I'm seeing the consensus opinion seems to be that its iffy at best if it will work so I'll just stick to the lead weights for now.

Real man condemn them as useless just like anal beads. [smilie=011.gif] Just put a weight on it and be done with it.

If you have a vibration problem you can't get rid of, find a shop that can road force balance your wheels.
Tire Rack has a nice article about road force balancing wheels.
