rem 788 (Small).jpg

No mods. This is mt FIL's. He "loaned" it to me since I didn't have an actual hunting type rifle and I have been having trouble finding one I really liked. Remington 788 .308. Bought by him new in 1964. Weaver 4x scope bought at the same time. I took it to the range the other day to sight it in and blow the cob webs out since it hadn't been shot since around '78-79 and had been sitting against the wall in his closet ever since. I used 1 box of 20rnds Remington 180gr that was bought the last time he'd taken it hunting '79. Moved the scope up and to the right just a bit at 25 and 50yds. Then moved to a 4" target at 100.

IM001668 (Small).JPG

Off Hand using a Hasty sling. 4 shots. I'd heard stories from others saying the 788 was probably even better than the 700. I'm kinda starting to believe it.

Great thread - hope to post a picture of mine soon when it is completed.

Not trying to hijack the thread but what reasonably priced decent scope would you recommend for a 20" Stainless heavy barreled AR15 .223 set up for target shooting? This is a budget rifle - not going to compete - but want something I can use at the 200-300 yard ranges for fun and to improve my shooting over time.

Thanks

My AAC Czechmate (integrally suppressed) built on a 452 American action (now sporting a Timney trigger) w/Mueller APV scope in Warne 7.3 rings. It's the quietest suppressed .22 I've ever heard and will shoot a dime size group at 50yds when I do my part - not bad for a 9.5" barrel. [smilie=011.gif]

We have a 1000 yard range about 2.5 hours south of Orlando (Manatee). :ber

Our local range only has 300 which is just too easy ](*,)

New here at F/S/N, and would like to share a couple of mine with all of you. Both custom built, one is a Remington 700 chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua with 27 inches of Bartlein Heavy varmint barrel. The other is a Stiller Tac 30 in .308 with an 18 inch Bartlein #8 barrel.

i adjusted the optics a little. Moved the scope back and put the RED/GREEN dot on the rear ring instead. Works great.

Cool guns.
I'm contemplating building a rifle similar to your DPMS .308 as soon as I sell my .50 McBros.
How about some specifics on that rifle? DPMS lower I assume but how about the barrel, upper, stock, trigger?
Thanks
