Squirrel hunting on the sly.

Postby Limeybtrd » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:20 pm

Hi,
I have a squirrel epidemic around where I live. They use my roof and pool lanai to cut across my yard. It will only be a matter of time before one finds a way into my attic.
Any suggestions on a 22 air rifle with optics that is quiet to use sinceI live in a residential area?
Thanks.

keep in mind if you get caught.......you'll probably either get charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits which you could loose possibly your gun rights or hunting out of season, better just put a bird feeder in the back part of your yard.

my neighbors on the left have a terrible squirrel problem chewing in the screened lanai , attic you name it, my other neighbor on the right feeds them and has never had issues :-k we have several bird feeders and have never had issues either =:bye
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

So tempting. Couple these rounds with the Walther P22 and laser sites. Then again I might end up getting deported.

Thing is I don't think I need a bird feeder. There are three oak trees in front and numerous in the back hence the population over load.
One other question. If the old bill ( police ) come and see me shooting an air rifle on my land is there any issues? I ask since I overlook a golf course and there is no fence between my two neighbors and I.

These are quiet pellet rifles:

.177 is adequate for squirrels.

I'm thinking that would be entirely up to your local ordinance. There is a lot of variablility as to what is allowed and not allowed depending on where you live.

Sounds like you need a cat/dog/squirrle twirl/squirrle catapult.

Have some fun with it.

(I'd use a .177 rifle and sit out there with a case of beer)

I shoot suppressed 22 all the time in the yard, but I keep an air rifle with me just in case. I can always toss the 22 and hold up the air rifle and say "what, it's just a pellet gun".

An older Crossman CO2 powered pellet gun held beneath a folded magazine (I suggest one from the Audobon Society) works quite and quietly nicely on everything up to, and including, fair sized armadillos -- but, day-em do those things bleed! The Great Sarasota Saber-Toothed Bunny Rabbit has also been taken in the South County. Just make sure of your shot, them bloody rabbits can get meaner than hell when wounded and cornered. Head shots seem to work best.

So you use a gun not a rifle? I guess that could work as my target is only about 10 yards or less away. Got any pics of the magazine suppressor ?

I do it all the time using a cheap Chinese .177 pellet rifle I picked up at a Tool Sale for $25. I open the sliding glass door, sit at the kitchen table, and shoot from a "bench". What little sound there is from the air rifle is indoors and can't be heard. No problem dropping the squirrels using the pellets.

Used to that when I was back in England. However can't here since there is a pool cage in the way.

Frederick,
The magazine isn't used as a suppressor. It just conceals the air pistol from view. Noise is the same, quiet, but wth a crack.

http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdepreventio ... itions.pdf

Under the definiton of a firearm, an airgun does not meet the federal definiton of a firearm as it does not use an explosive charge to propell an object.

Correct me if i am wrong but doesnt the state premption law prohibit individual counties and municipalities from passing gun control laws passed what the state has?
