Spikes Tactical opinions needed please.....

Postby DrCarbine » Fri Jul 15, 2011 9:22 am

Hello folks....since my move to Mt.Dora, I noticed Spikes is right down the street from me in Apopka. They advertise a very nice LE M4 version and was curious as to there quality of product vs. others on the market. Thank you for all your opinions......Doc

Very good quality, from my experience. Don't hesitate on their products. I'm not a big fan of their roll mark, but that's me.

On first glance, looks like it scores well on "The Chart"

I liked my Spikes M-4gery so much I bought 3 more for each of my sons. They do good work, the price is reasonable, and Spike is great to deal with. Add in the fact the company is local and it makes sense to check them out.

I love this chart because it clearly points out that Spikes IS the same quality as BCM, among others at a cheaper price. But on TOS people constantly hate on spikes and says it's garbage. Then when the "chart" is presented they attack it and say it's B.S.

ETA: I'm with Ian. I hate the roll mark, but still a wonderful rifle.

Spikes is good stuff. Anyone that attacks the "Chart" should take a look at the certfications. Honestly how many companies post copies of the certfication of the metals used in the contruction of the barrel? Wakkos what about the zombie, pirate or punisher roll marked lowers?

I'm not a big fan of the novelty rollmarks. I've always liked Noveske, Anvil, Colt, and Olympic's rollmarks. I deliberately SBRed an Anvil since I knew I was gonna have it a while. I'd love to do a Noveske next, but I will likely just do a Colt. I don't own any Olympics...just like the lion.

Wow, according to the chart (thanks echo6 !) the Spikes Tactical is almost identical to the Colt 6920 – with one curious exception. The Spikes rifle has a one ounce heavier buffer… very interesting.

I can’t understand why Bushmaster didn’t respond; maybe it was when they were going through their “transition.” I’ve forgotten, who now owns Bushmaster?

The whole reason I got a Bushmaster was because of their excellent customer support. I called them to get some inexpensive part for a friend’s rifle and they treated me like I was buying their most expensive rifle!

Also, I’ve seen some charts list some properties of Bushmaster rifles incorrectly, for example some charts will say that Bushmaster doesn’t stake their carrier key – well they did in my rifle! But alas, Bushmasters do NOT have the extended M4 type feed ramps, so in that sense the Spikes Tactical even has Bushmaster beat (although a good argument could be made against the necessity of extended feed ramps in a semi-automatic firearm).

Actually, the only accurate way to assess the quality of an M4 type rifle is how cool their roll mark is. Unlike some here (arachnophobes?) I actually like the Spikes rollmark which alone makes it a quality rifle!

I'm not a big fan of Bushmaster's finish. I've always like Rock River's finish. I had issues with a DPMS before and their customer service was absolutely stellar. I was very impressed.

Own a M4 that is 85% build from parts I got from Spikes (barrel, lower, lower parts kit, charging handle, bcg, flat-top upper, buffer tube assembly) and the rest is Magpul stuff, plus a 2nd complete lower I use with a CMMG 22LR upper. No problems so far and I'm happy with the quality of the parts I purchased from Spikes.

Just my $0.02 cents.

If you were looking for an M4 pattern rifle, I wouldn't hesitate on the spikes LEM4. I've been interested in the midlength lightweight barrel profile recently. I got a loaner BCM upper which I've been using and I like it so much I'm going to buy one almost identical to it...if they ever get the correct upper back in stock that is.

I'm late to the party here, but I am of the opinion that there is no better deal to be had right now especially if you are buying just an upper. Spikes offers a complete mil-spec upper, with rail, BCG, and charging handle for equal to or less money than comparative uppers from BCM or DD. Their customer service has been top notch, and they offer a lifetime warranty, and they are local.
