Made a trip over to the south store on Friday when I was in the area. Got there at 7am forgetting the time change!!!! Ran over to walmart in Anniston to kill some time and came back and was still first in line. This was my second trip there. Unfortunately the shelves were pretty bare. I was told that this was a combination of the huge bolt action release and the Western Games going on at the same time, there has not been much restocking this week. No service grades M1 of any flavor in the store. There was two whole racks of WRA field grades, which was by far the most abundant item there. I wasnt interested in them so I didnt really look. There was a handful of SA field grades and about a dozen HRA field grades. SInce I didnt have an HRA I was most interested in these. I was able to find one that gauged a 2 on both ends, which appears to have the original HRA barrel and many HRA parts including the USGI stock which has some dings but is cleaning up nice with decent cartouches, HRA trigger assembly with all parts HRA, HRA op rod,and gas tube nut. Bolt is a very early WWII SA. Havent really dug into it any more to see what else is there. Metal is in pretty good shape with a nice even original park. The only metal wear is the gas cylinder which is nice and shiny!! I noticed after I got back to camp that the rear sight base had a pretty bad crack in it, I sent CS a email and Ill see what they say. worse comes to worse Ive already found replacements for less then $20.
There was a bunch of M1ds and Cs, a rack of corrects that looked very nice, and some service grade specials with the new wood.
There was a couple bolt guns left in the store but they consisted of mostly chromed 1917 ceremonial rifles, a couple 1903 drills and a bunch of barrelled recievers that looked terrible. I contemplated a 1917 but the chrome was a bit much so I passed. There was also a few racks of Krags which I wasnt really interested in so I not sure what they looked like.
There was a few .22s left as well, mostly anshutz of different models and a few other assorted ones including remington 513T and a few others. Almost bought a nice remington but realized I really need a youth gun for my son instead so I passed. The guy behind me bought it. There was also a rack of barrelled receivers as well which I didnt really look at.
As for accessories there was a bunch of the 16 inch bayonets out in boxes. There was a few nice service grade springfields with wooden grips, about 3/4 looked to have the black greek park. I ended up buying a nice AFH 10" cutdown bowie point that had been modified by AFH. It was greasy but in excellent condition!. The was two boxes of the newly released surplus M1 web slings. I went looking for WWII slings but didnt see any. Most were unmarked in excellent condition but i did find one MRT 59 marked sling. Bought a few of these as well. Cant beat the 5.95 price tag. There was two boxes of rusty M1 carbine mags. I found a whole pile that had little to no rust and went through about half of them. All different makers. I brought home 3--two are arsenal refinished grey park winchester and Inland and a nice IBM blued. Price was $5 each.
I was told the store would be restocked for this week so hopefully the selection will be a little better. I may take another trip next month as my father in law is pretty interested in picking out a garand for himself.
