ak 47 sling help and belt vs vest

Postby Enoch » Sun Jan 01, 2012 4:12 am

I know I'm a retard so please go slow and easy on me...

I have a Lancaster arms AK47. I don't have a sling for this and would like to add a traditional ak sling.

In a addition to this, there are some carbine classes/drills held at Markham Park that I would like to participate in. The course requires a rifle with a sling that holds the rifle "muzzle down". I am a sling moron but I think that maybe I can use a ms2 ar-type sling and adapt this to a single-point ak platform for front muzzle-down carry?

The class is once a month and I'd like to make this Tuesday's class if possible. Please help.

Oh yeah... for extra mags, how do you feel about belt vs vest? Can you give me recommendations for both?

What's wrong with your pockets ??
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

a traditional AK sling will not hold the muzzle downward. You need a signle point sling for that. Maybe someone makes a mount for an AK to take a single point sling, but i haven't seen one. The sling mount on the buttstock is WAY too far back to be able to use a single point sling and still be functional.

Any single point attachment rear of the pistol grip will keep the weapon muzzle down when slung.
A two point, with the sling coming off the butt stock over the top(near where your cheek hold is) and connected to the forward sling point should keep the weapon muzzle down when slung.

I always prefer belt setups over any kind of vest.
Rear cargo pocket would work if you don't have belt mounted pocket and would be my #2 choice over a vest.

YMMV

On the mags, my 2c:

In Florida weather, belts are much better idea than vests if you have to move around - slap some East German mag pouches on those and you're good. If you have to carry a ton of mags, you can also use a Chicom rig, those things are great.

If you need to quickchange mags for any reason, double-taping them (same side up) really works. You have to put something inbetween the mags, and the right one has to sit lower so it doesn't bump the safety, but your reloads are 5x faster. Double mags will fit in belt pouches if you cut the partitions, and chicom rigs take em fine too.

Best wishes,
Daniel
