Modified SKS

Postby shadow83 » Sat Dec 23, 2006 3:00 am

For a fun project to do together my son and I bought a Yugo SKS and modified it.
We removed the gernade launcher and site, changed the stock to synthetic
(it was a fixed folding stock so we made it fold and shortened it a little),
added a drilled and tapped side scope mount, a front accessory rail and
AR-15 grip, a fire site, muzzle break and a 30 round detachable mag.

Some nice ones there! =D>

Mine is a MAK-90.
The stock is Choate- replaced because the original thumhole stock was made for people
with 9" long fingers because I sure couldn't reach the trigger! The sling is original.
Damn that assault weapons ban for milling off my bayonet lug! But thankfully they
seemed to have missed the barrel's threading as it's still there.

Just changed out my black 'plastic' furniture to wood. Improves the look greatly (I think it does).

I broke down and bought one for an upcoming AK operator's class. It's a Lancaster from Blaine at Atlantic Firearms. I installed the BFG Vickers sling. If I decide I like the platform enough I may invest in an Ultimak rail and an Aimpoint H-1 micro re-dot sight for it, but frankly dumping over the cost of the gun into an AK just seems silly to me.

I also wound up putting one of the Ergo grips on it (although I don't know which one is which). I tried both of them, and the stock grip, and found I like this one best. The Blackjack safety lever was a must-have for me as well.
