AR sighting in problem

Postby Gregh181 » Mon Dec 26, 2011 12:59 pm

At the range today i zeroed my rifle. I started out at the 25yard line till i hit bullseyes. I had trouble hitting a target when i moved to the 100 yard range . I have the magpul rear sights on my AR. To get the rounds On target my front sight tip is apmost screwed all the way out. Im zeroed in at 100 now but worried bout the front sight being so far out. Is this ok to leave as such? Im thinking it has to do with the magpul flip up sight not having the regular adjustments an AR carry handle would have. If so ill go with a troy battle rear flip up sight. Either way ive never had so much trouble before zeroeing in an AR.

I had the same thing with my Magpul sites requiring what seemed like too much raising of the front post.

I only did it to set them and then took them off anyway as I use an EOTech but it did seem odd to me

do you have a fixed front site? If its not F marked this can be an issue, you can get a taller front site post. My friend had the same issues w/ an ARMS. I had an MI and never had problem

I do have a fixed front sight. I could try that solution as it just doesnt look right with the tip so far screwed out.

There is a difference in standard front sight posts... one is used with a carry handle upper sight, the other is used for flat top receiver

Researching the problem online I've found that many people have had the same problem as I have with Bushmaster AR's using BUIS rear sights. The solution everyone has come to is to get the taller front site post. Thanks guys for the help! :ber

This ^^. The screw-in post is what you need to change. There are taller ones available. The sight base itself is not the issue. There's no practical difference between an "F" marked and an unmarked sight base. The "F" indicates a slightly taller (.04") shelf height over an unmarked one but has absolutely nothing to do with zeroing the rifle. The screw-in post is what you zero with.
