I have a Springfield SAR-8 with the aluminum receiver that I would like to put a scope on. In fact I have purchased a Nikon 3-9 x 40 scope recently from another forum member here and all I need to accomplish this installation is the correct scope rings. My receiver accepts the weaver style rings and I believe the std. 1” rings are what I need. My problem is getting the scope to clear the rear sight on my rifle. I drove around to my local gun shops Saturday looking for rings that are tall enough to allow my scope to clear the rear sight and they are telling me I need “extra high” rings or an AR style mount. Has anyone here run into the same problem? Were the extra high rings tall enough? I found some extra high rings online…but now I’m wondering if I should just remove the rear sight all together and go with the low height rings. It would be great if I could get some feedback from someone here that has dealt with a similar problem. Or even better is someone has a picture of their setup using the extra high rings. Thanks for reading my post.
Here is a picture of my rifle.
