I believe this to be the last picture taken of Kevin. It was July 22, 2010 @ 2255 hours. Notice the obligatory Mauser in the background. His father passed away earlier this year. He was an American War Hero and was laid to rest just this past August in Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you, Mr. Pate. Hopefully Kevin and his Dad are now swapping war stories and BSing about whatever............................

I promised some people that I'd let them know what was going on with a service for Kevin. I am sad to report that it's not looking good. I am very upset right now with the way his sister has been handling things. I've been pretty much shut out. She was supposed to keep me updated but, I haven't heard from her in weeks. I have called 3 times lately, left messages but, got no replies. All the info I seem to get is second hand from his Mom, of all people. She's in here 80's, not well herself, and yet her daughter seems to be dumping the "communication process" in her lap. All I know to date is that Kevin was hastily wisked away and cremated in Tampa. I was told there would be a service at a family cemetery in Ft. Myers. Now his sister is saying that she may have a service in December "when the weather is cooler" (her words, via Mrs. Pate). They wasted no time cleaning out his house and taking all of his belongings back to Ft. Myers. I helped out the first day and tried to let them know about what Kevin would have wanted. We talked about it now and then. I was pretty much ignored. Even though I found out that they were back several more times (and I had gladly volunteered to help out) I was never called again or told about these subsequent "cleanings". Needless to say, I am angry, sad, and hearted-broken at the disrespect that Kevin seems to be getting from his sister. Trust me, I am not the only one that feels this way. Kevin's real friends know how he felt, what he wanted and we will remember him with all the respect that he deserves. Please help us in doing so by remembering him fondly. You can't pick your family BUT, luckily... you can pick your friends.

Rest well, my friend. I miss you more than I can ever convey.

very sad the hear about family members like that !

I know with Nicolas coming to town Sweep, Ipscscott and the boys always try and plan a shoot at Manatee, I know Kevin talked about the shoots he attended there in the past, maybe you guys can do a mini memorial send off in his honor

In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

Shoot's not gonna happen while he's here although we are doing a BBQ as soon as I sort out some details in the next day or so.

We're probably going to try to do a shoot in November, maybe around turkey day-ish. Been kicking the idea around.

I was so happy that day to see the old fart, as he had so much trouble with getting around. I knew he had made a big effort to travel over.

The look on his face was classic when he saw Flcracker open up that smoker of his and the smell of cooked chicken and ribs had him questioning his sanity in leaving .......................... He promised me next time he would stay over [smilie=012.gif]

Rest in peace my friend [smilie=cheers1.gif]

We all know how shitty families can be sometimes but at the end of the day his sister took over the estate and handled the matter in the way she saw fit, right or wrong dont come in to it sometimes.

Its really hard I know when its a good mate and in life he proberly saw you more as family than his own.

Sadly without having 'executor of will duties' you are just a by-stander watching folks plunder and desecrate.

Lesson to us all no matter how young we are, if you have specific wishes after your gone, put them in a will now.

This type of situation happens way to often to good folks.

How true. I heard about that BBQ thing for months! Maybe longer. My son was the reason we left. We had decided that next time we were staying no matter what. Lesson learned: there is no next time. Do it now!

To all those interested: I have received word that a Memorial will be held for Kevin on Saturday, December 4th at 10:30AM at the family cemetery in Ft. Myers, Florida. It will be followed by lunch at his sister's house. I wish about a thousand people would show up. I'll post directions and whatnot when I get them.

The "Frierson-Hendry Cemetery" is located at 1862 Henderson Avenue in Ft. Myers. Zip is 33916 if you want to do a Map Quest search.

To get there, take I-75 to MLK Jr. Blvd in Ft. Myers. Head west and follow MLK to Henderson Avenue. Turn right onto Henderson. Go down a bit and the cemetery will be on the left surrounded by a fence.
