Red Jacket Firearms AK47

Postby Patriot_Productions » Sun Aug 14, 2011 10:48 am

Has anyone purchased a Red Jacket Firearms "Russian Red Classic" AK-47? It sells for over $1000.00, is it worth it?

Thanks,
~Mike

Cheaper elsewhere. And probably not.

seems overpriced. It's a converted Saiga with wood furniture. The only thing different than this and a $725 Arsenal converted Saiga is wood vs. polymer furniture and the muzzle break. So if those 2 things are worth that much extra money to you, go ahead and get it.

I almost bought a Red Jacket Saiga conversion about a year ago (before the Sons of Guns TV show came on), but now all their prices seemed to have went up since they became a little more popular.

I've personall been very happy with Arsenal AK's i've gotten from K-VAR in regards to higher priced/quality AKs. They don't come with wood furniture, but $120 to Ironwood Designs can always fix that

Here is the milled Russian Red from RJF, the buttstock and bayonet are extra.

Just messing with you, but like the other guys said that is overpriced and there is probably a wait since they are the "coolest" AK builder out there now. Here is a Florida guy who does work out of Ft. Myers http://www.ak-103.com/rifles.html he can build whatever you want and does good work. I have been to his shop twice and ordered parts from him also. If absolutely want a Russian and you don't want to convert one yourself ask him what a bone stock AK will cost, and put the wood you want on yourself. The other option is a Bulgarian Arsenal and just swap out the polymer for wood like psignore00 said. I have Russians and Bulgarians and both are great FWIW.

If you do a quick search on youtube for Red Jacket AK's youll find quite a few pissed off people. Since their newfound fame they have been seriously slacking on the quality of their work. they are producing a lot of overpriced crap these days. For instance check out UrbanTiger74 video on his krink he got from them. Its pretty bad.

here is the video akfan is talking about

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjWMjxZFKF4

seems like simple issues a lot of AK's have, but yea, I'd expect more if I were to waste $ 2000 for a name #-o ](*,)
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

The owner is almost as big a douche as LaRue, his shit is WAY overpriced too, how they got a show beats me

Don't mention Larue and Red jacket in the same breath!
At least Larue's stuff works.
RJF is the home of Bubba the gunsmith.
Go to silencertalk.com and read Will's pushing his "Shootrite Katana", a retro lightweight AR that probably had $ 700 in parts, but "sells" for $2K!!! My comments were pulled but they are quoted by Will himself in a reply (I am mp5 on that board).
The show is unintentionally funny, but gives gunsmiths a bad name IMHO.

On a recently re-aired episode they showed one of their RJF AKs showing up at the shop for warranty repairs - problem was, it was a fake.

No. If you want to spend money on a high end AK, buy something from K-Var instead of paying for a 'TV' premium.
Besides the show itself is enough to convince anyone familiar with firearms not to buy anything from them. Ever.

We used to recommend Red Jacket AKs; we no longer do because the quality since the show has declined a great deal.
