Reciprocity Question

Postby p7fl » Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:03 pm

I don't want to hijack another thread but, have a question.
My understanding was that an out of state Florida CCW permit allowed a person to CCW in Florida.
Does it also give them the legal right to CCW in states that have reciprocity with Florida?
TIA

Yes and No. There are several states that Florida has reciprocity with that have their laws worded to prohibit carry if they are not a resident of a state that they have reciprocity with. S.Carolina, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Michigan fall into this category. All of the other states that Fl has reciprocity with a Non Resident can carry on a FL CCW.

As mentioned above "Yes" AND "No".

In NH, SC, MI and CO a Florida CWFL is only valid IF you are also a resident of Florida. If your driver's license is not a Florida driver's license, then you're going to have a problem in those 4 States...

The other 31 States with reciprocity agreements don't care except (isn't there always an exception) a few States require their own residents use a license issued locally (e.g. Georgia has reciprocity agreements with many States including FL, but, whereas a NY resident may carry in GA with a FL license, a GA resident MUST have a GA CCW to be legal)

Hope that clears up any ambiguity.

This is why we need to make sure our stated attorney generals sign reciprocity agreements. It would help solve these problems.

Or just pass a national concealed carry reciprocity act into law.... just like they did with drivers licenses!
