Looking for some information about Plainfield Machine M1 carbines. One just landed in my safe recently "by accident" ( so I told my wife) and I sadly no little about them.....Great looking gun though!

I had one, once, that was made in the early 1970s.
It was the so called paratrooper model with the collapsible wire stock.
That particular one was perfect, well made, ultra reliable and quite accurate.
It was always included on trips to the range.
I only sold it when the cheap surplus ammo was running out.
Definitely one of those "shoulda' kept it" and reloaded for it.
Enjoy yours, I'm jealous.

Considering how expensive USGI carbines have become, they're a cheap shooter alternative. I had one and sold it for around $300 not that long ago. Decent gun, but I upgraded to a "real" one for the history. IIRC the Plainfields are better than the Universals. Some Plainfields made it into overseas service and were received by the CMP a few years back. I think they're made to USGI specs, while the Universals were not. Either way, have fun shooting it.

It's a nice looking gun. It came with a nice usgi stock with wood handguard rather that flimsy perforated steel. Now to find cheap 30 carbine ammunition.....

Aha, there's the rub.
Unless you can find some old timey hoarder, who might want to unload a basement full of .30 carbine, it's kind of pricey ammo, these days.
The above link is about as cheap as it gets, not too bad.
But it's an easy round to reload, no more costly than .38s.

yea, sorry to say the days of .30 cal surplus are long gone [smilie=012.gif]
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

I bought 500 rounds off of a guy on orlando today for $150. That will keep me in business for awhile...to come home and find out when I go to put it away that I have 2,000 rounds of Sellier & Beloit 30 carbine ammo hiding in my stash! Grrrrr!
