So I picked this up for $400 today

So I picked this up for $400 today

Postby Erik » Fri Jan 30, 2009 6:50 pm

I think I did pretty well. It is a Century Cetme, and came with the scope, bipod, HK sling, 1 mag and also a box of ammo. It is in great physical shape and looks like it has been fired very little.

I was told this is a milled stainless receiver which makes it worth more? I don't know much about these guns.

Re: American part count in Century Cetme

Postby Gunnut42 » Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:17 pm

Congrats on the Cetme.
I have 2 Century Cetme's that I love, One in Black and one with wood.
I believe your green furniture set is German G3 surplus.
Maybe someone here knows if the ATF considers the 3 Century stock pieces as part of the required
American made part count?
Without the originals you may need to add 3 more American made parts to make sure you do not come up short of the requiremed minimum.
I see you have a scope, mount and GI sling, If they are American made maybe they count as parts?
Anybody have more information on this topic as I would like to know also.
Good Luck and enjoy the rifle!

I'm pretty sure that it's Portuguese not German.

check the headspace, check the bolt for grind marks, and if it's good to go, have fun.

its a cast receiver, not milled receiver....the rear sight is the giveaway...can't answer the stainless part...as for worth more ?...yes and no, they are more desirable since on the stamped versions, the rear sights were tack welded in place

wood furniture for those used to be cheap....they look awsome in the wood, if you can find a set might wanna pick them up...going rate on these now is approx $ 700...I have 3 , got 2 of them back when they were $ 299 to dealers...have to be one of my favorite rifles of all time....I even have some parts I picked up from JT4 and planned on hacking the barrel and making the carbine version, but its still on the to do list... :ber

bayonets are cheap like $9 but you will have to change the MB and get the lug/tube to replace the front cap for it to assemble correctly.

p.s. might wanna power wash before you driveway before taking any more gun pics.......lol

Thanks for the answer Mark. I don't know much about these, but figured for $400 you can't go wrong. I do really want a wood set. I see them on GB for around $30 a set, and am probably going to pick one of those up here in the next day or two. I need the rear sight pin and detents. You wouldn't happen to have them would you?

How do you always come across these crazy deals ?
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. – Samuel Adams
