My budget build Journey

Postby GLoCKeYeD » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:27 pm

doesn't it always end up over budget? lol

anyway i was originally going to go super cheap. used tikka /stevens couple hundred on glass and call it done. this is even to see if i like precision shooting. I was also trying to hold off till later in the year but a couple of deals showed up so i had to pull the trigger

Image

gently used savage 12FV in 223 with a SS fluted varmint barrel.
gently used Wotac Gen 4 4-14x50
DNZ game reaper on sale at midway
caldwell bipod off my 10/22 for now.
and a Boyd thumbhole should be here Friday. I wasn't going to buy a stock but the tupperware is too light and flimsy. Boyd was having a sale on the classic stock, but for $13 more i said what the heck. [smilie=011.gif]

next im saving up for a CDI mag setup, and then decide on a either a SSS stock, or PDC =:e

Nice starter pieces. That is a good way to get into precision shooting.
Is that a Wotac scope? If so, let us know how it looks, I was looking at those at one time.
I like those DNZ mounts for hunting, very sturdy and simple.
Midway has the Bell & Carlson Medalist stock for the Savage on sale this month. $204 and you get a full alum bedding block.

Let us know how it shoots.

Yep if you have a range close by expect to be spending a great deal of time there. [smilie=pdt_xtremez_30.gif]

thanks guys. i figured it would be time to setup from my 10/22.

this weekend has been filled with me fitting the action to the boyd stock. if i had know it would be this much i would have just bought a microfit.

me and a co worker visit the range every 4-6 weeks. i have fired his 700 in 308 a few times, which gave me the bug for a bolt gun.

If it shoots as good as it looks you will have yourself a winner.

Ammo - home load or factory ?

Get into a prone dry fire routine, ideally in your back yard at a 1/4" target out at about 10-15 yards. Just go through the same routine and try and hold yourself in position even after the 'click'.

Trust me it will improve your groups and its free [smilie=011.gif]
