Have an opportunity to purchase a CZ in .40 cal.
Don't know the model # yet and was wondering about any pros or cons to this brand.

CZ handguns, based on the CZ75 platform, offer the biggest bang for the buck. Over the years, I've owned a pair of CZ75bs in 9mm and one in .40, a Rami in 9mm, a 40p, a P01, and a pair of CZ 40bs --- I don't think I've left any out. I've also owned Italian-made Witnesses, copies of the 75, in 9mm and .45. All I have left now are the 40bs, having sold the last 75b, in .40, to Supertones31 last week. I cannot remember a single ftf or fte on any of them. They were all excellent right out of the box. The only reason I sold them was that all-steel pistols (the plain 75bs) are a tad tiring on old and skinny arms. The Rami, despite its reliability, never quite fit my hand, and the same with the 40p and P01. The two remaining 40Bs will have to be pried from my cold, dead hands! They are that good!

If the 75 you're looking at fits your hand, buy it. You won't find a better pistol.

I've owned a 75 SA and a 75BD, and still own a 75-P01. All were excellent guns that fit my hand well. The triggers were gritty on the two I got new, the BD and P01. However, both of those are decocker models, which has a different trigger arrangement than the safetied 75s. They much harder to detail strip too (or so I'm told--I've never tried). I never had a failure on any of them, and was most accurate with the P01. I've had a witness elite match that I recently liquidated that was very nice, and cheap too. That was in 45acp; everything else was 9mm. I like the design. It's easy to field strip, aftermarket parts are available, and custom shop work is pretty reasonable if your tastes run that way.

I have the CZ75B .40 cal. Great gun. Extremely reliable and accurate. This site rates it the #1 buy in the "under $600" category: http://www.best9mm.com/

At least make sure that it's CZ75B in .40 cal which is a very good pistol based upon my experience. Recoil is very easy to control comparing to my Glock35. No problem of any kind as far as I can remember. It even took Kadet .22 conversion kit w/ out problem. I got it for around $350. Unfortunately, I sold and still don't know why I did it.

Another plus for the CZs. I first encoutnered them about 10 year ago, went through dozens of other platforms and have returned to the CZ-75C as my all around gun. It's the gun I recommend to anyone who asks for a recommendation.

Just picked up my first CZ yesterday, a NIB P-01.

First impressions are very good but will have to wait until Monday to get to the range.

I've had a CZ 82 for years & it's scary accurate. Fits my hand well & shoots cheap 9mm Makarov. Last month I found a deal on a P-01 & it is truly awesome. Very accurate, very comfortable shooter. My new favorite pistol. If you get a CZ, I guarantee you won't regret it.

Thanks for the feed back. He has a Glock in .45 and a CZ in .40
Still waiting to get the models and a look/test of them.
He's asking $450 for the Glock and $400 for the CZ.

Exactly which CZ in .40 is it? If it's any guide to you, the CZ75b in .40 S&W that I sold last week was satin-nickel, lnib, with two factory 10-round mags and one 12-round Mecgar mag, a Hogue Wraparound grip, plus original grips, all in original packaging. The only thing missing was the owner's manual, and you can download that anywhere. I took $425 for the entire package.

Me like my CZ75Bs. I have one in .40 (has a guide rod) and one in 9mm.
You can go to the premier CZ forum to check on the different models. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php

ETA: I also have 2 CZ-50s(.32) and 4 CZ-52s(7.62x25).

Oops, I forgot I owned a CZ 82, too. It was accurate, but I did not like the width for CC. For the caliber, I recommend a Mak.

+1 on the P01; it is my home defense and my CC weapon in cool weather.

These two guns in question are a Glock 30 and a CZ 40P.
Didn't like the feel of the Glock. Very uncomfortable for me. Not enough grip and I have small hands. Just didn't feel right and would expect the recoil of a .45 to be harsh with this setup.
Now the CZ it fit my hand perfect, just felt great.
Guess I'll make a decision after a range test.

CZ40P? Okay, what you've got there is kind of a Frankengun, a P01 receiver with a 40B top end. They came about, if I remember correctly, when CZ had extra parts over from both pistols, for whatever reason. I bought a 40P when they first came out --- in those days I had to have every CZ there was! --- but as I wrote earlier it didn't quite fit my hand, well, not as well as the 40B anyway. Never had any trouble with the 40P, though. It ate everything and was as accurate as I was.

When you get bitten by the CZ bug, though, and you surely will, see if you can hunt down a 40B. They are terrific pistols. Or, once you have the 40P, just look for a 40B receiver. Or find yourself a PO1 top end, and you've got another model for yourself.

Enjoy.

As mentioned earlier I bought a CZ75b .40 and it's a DREAM to shoot. It shoots as well as my Kimbers. I'm seriously considering selling my Glocks and Kimbers and just getting the different CZs. I joined the CZ forum today and am currently drinking some kool-aid! I can't wait to learn and purchase more of these guns.

(Quick story) I went shooting this weekend w/ my g/f and she can't rack the slide, but at 20 yards she was busting coffee mugs with this. Not too bad for a gal who has shot maybe ~200 rounds her whole life and is 5'3, 100lbs!

Jason, I told you that you'd be on that long, slippery path to CZ mania once you used it. Just stay away from the stuff that came before the 75. The 70 and the 50 and the rest of the old models are just copies of other pistols, Walther PPs, I think. They have curiosity value but not much else in the modern world. Pick yourself up a 40B if you come across one, but not one of mine!
