Hey folks, I'm getting back into shooting with a new SA XDm 9mm 4.5. I'm also looking to try my hand at IDPA/USPSA action shooting. Hope to see many of you at the Central and North FL matches!

Welcome here, too.
Is it a bit cooler up there, yet?

Bah, not really! Less humid, though. I spent the last 7 years living/working in Tampa...

Welcome to the show.
There is an undeniable cultural difference. It's the difference in the mindset of those who believe they are owed a living, and those who believe success is the result of hard work.

Welcome bro!

My every day carry is an XD9 in a supertuck crossbreed and I love it!

Just noticed this thread, hi Erich =:bye , I'm in Gainesville but not into IPSC, more of a collector / recreational shooter.

Best wishes,
Daniel

Nope, I shoot in Lake City mostly. We have a large group of friends into firearms, plus our spouses/girlfriends/classmates that come out shooting with us. I forget GTR rules but I'm pretty sure bringing 5-10 person groups with just one member wouldn't work.

Best wishes,

You can bring as many guests as you feel you can be responsible for, and each pays a $10 guest pass fee. You have to take their Safe Shooter's class, first, before you can bring guests. Either that, or be an NRA instructor.

I'm putting on monthly "fun shoots" for a group of guys at work. We started doing these at Beckwith's indoor range, but I may now host them at GTR. These group shoots can have 8-10 guys.

We figure it's easier to chip in $5 for gas and generally have the at least 3-4 lanes at Lake City to ourselves for free, with no one breathing down our neck when we decide to bump fire an AK or something ;). There are volunteers taking care of the range there of course, but they're very nice guys, we do our best to be respectful, and they cut us some slack. Plus this way no one has to pay the membership fee.

As for Beckwith's, I agree it's not that good. I used to come there occasionally, but the Spanish guy acted like a dick last time I came there, so I'm not shooting there again.

Best wishes,
Daniel

Sounds fun. I have occasionally thought of running up there to check it out. As long as it's not the Wild West like Ocala. #-o

Yeah I heard bad things about Ocala, never went there. As I said, Lake City generally has a couple volunteers there, also military or LEOs shoot there quite often.
