New Nat'l Geo. series - Doomsday Preppers

Postby Odessaman » Wed Jan 18, 2012 1:30 am

I just saw the advertisement for this new series tonight on National Geographic Channel. Premiers on Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 9 PM. From the promo, looks like they found a bunch of mainstream looking folks who are willing to open their BOB's for the world to see. I'll probably check it out just to see how the subject is handled, but I'm expecting a sensationalistic portrayal of the featured families as Tea Party nutjobs.

Well, in all honesty it is hard not to portray folks like a lot of us as anything but a little bit nuts. The whole preparing for the collapse of civilization has been around for forever. It is becoming more apparent today only because a hundred years ago most people lived off any sort of grid and so were always prepared.
If you wanted a time where it looked for all the world as if the U.S. was going to split at the seams and go full crazy, the 60's were it; but the radicals went underground and subverted society through the education system and government programs; if it blows up now, it will likely be controlled implosion with a new structure already set in place.
Make no mistake, civilization is but a thin veneer that requires everyone to believe it can never end, and being prepared is more sane than to not; but given the history of those that prepare, it is easy to make them look a bit foolish in hindsight.
It will be interesting to see how they handle it, and whether they allow it to serve as a fountain of information about what experts believe is prudent to do; or if they simply lampoon the whole thing as nuts (racist nuts of course, since this only is happening because Obama is black).

Not bullets, rounds or cartridges; dammit Megan!!!

Well, the trailer looks like they are going to do a full on butcher of the preppers. Megan talking about how she it going to kill her cat, because dogs are better, and then does a dance when her mean acquaintance starves.

I don't know why anyone that was seriously prepared would want to televise it. Your neighbors are going to know who you are and come-a-knocking [-X

](*,)

I have seen other "serious" shows where they have peeked into some seriously prepared people that have spent big $ preparing, and they very carefully conceal who the folks are, where they live, give no outside panoramas, and do not expose the hidden access ways. The amount of $ spent was staggering, but some of these folks are not just 1%'ers, they must be .00001%ers!

Any serious prepper will not allow themselves to be televised, as this show is just another hey look at me 15 minutes of fame reality tv show.

I would like to look back at these folks 3 months after the program airs to see which ones haven't been broken into yet.

Given my grandparents did this 100 years ago when food was not a regular commodity, this really is nothing new. LDS folks have been doing long term food storage long before it was hip.

More commercialism for those SUPPLYING all this stuff. I'll have to get my normal hurricane supplies early since the 2012 crazies will be whipped into a buying frenzy.

Yeah I don't get why you would want to broadcast this to anyone. I dunno if they will be broken into but if you are into prepping, why would you advertise when you expect the world to crash? Anyone think of looters?

Sold a house back in 1999 & the sellers did have a Y2K room chock full of supplies.
They had more water than Wally World, and a ton of freeze dried everything, and a bunch of MRE's.
I wonder how much toilet paper you should have in stock after eating freeze dried food & MRE's for months on end?

Looks like he wasn't prepped enough for the government! [smilie=011.gif]

Doomsday Prepper Declared Mental Defective
Government confiscates his Guns

Just days after appearing on the National Geographic TV Show Doomsday Prepper, a prepper from Tennessee has been declared Mentally Defective and his guns have been seized by the government. The Prepper, David Sarti is a character to say the least, but his story is somewhat disturbing and should be a wake up call for everyone.

Personally I think these shows are designed to make these people look crazy. Whether his appearance on the show played into Mr. Sarti’s diagnosis isn’t yet clear, but apparently the State believed he was a danger to himself after a local doctor insisted that Mr. Sarti was suicidal.

Mr. Sarti denies the charges and insists that he told the doctor he was a Christian and his belief made it impossible for him to commit suicide.

To a person of my political beliefs this might as well be a life in prison sentence. I can now no longer work with the schools or target practice with my guns (one of the few sports I could still do) Therefore Prepping for me has come to a end, as everyone knows there is no since putting up food and other things without a means to defend them. I CAN NOT AFFORD an attorney and the only person who can expunge the record wont (the Governor of Tennessee) I do not know when or if I will be able to return at this time.

For the record the doctor/ prick who raped me is Andre C. Olivier, M.D.

For some reason the NRA attorney has refused my case I am looking for another.

The only reason I would think these people would appear on this show is to collect a nice fat check $$$$
Otherwise, why would you advertise your house to looters, crims, govmint scrutiny, etc.. ?? [-X

The one that made no sense is the couple from Maine that refused to have guns & ammo and believe the community would support them in protection. :ham'r

I saw this guy and his wife living in ship containers,a bunch of them,stacked...stocking back food,ammo,everything..they had schoobuses set up to "bugout" if they had to.All good ideas,i guess, but when the documentary made a big deal out of them shooting the steel containers,to see how tough they were,I blew the show off as bullsnit. They shot with .22's in the first place, which wont shoot through a container,,but the show edited in high power rifle sounds, wnen the .22's were shot.Jesus those folks who make those shows are dumbasses.

I have a certain amount of food back,my pool has thousands of gallons of water..etc...but ammo is the ticket..anyone with half a brain could take away all they wanted from these block heads doing the prepping.

there is a bunch in the western deserts....that are building zombie proof condos,at 1.8 milliong per 8 person condo, out of old middle silos. The developer,is doing this all over the world. When asked if he thinks its a good idea that will save people in the long run...he looks at the floor...looks back up..and says...naaah.That's what I think.

The show is completely undermined by retards who believe retarded things.

In the first episode the guy in the shipping containers fort believes a shift of the magnetic poles will cause a massive and sudden continental drift, something that can't and has never happened in the history of the Earth. And even if there was some massive earthquake event, they have all their food in glass jars on shelves. He is a moron who doesn't understand basic, basic things.

Then you have the apartment chick who believes all the oil will mysteriously disappear and her solution is to drive to Mexico. Even if we ignored domestic production for a moment (which means gas would simply get very expensive) she believes in that scenario she can drive a vehicle full of "priceless gasoline" all the way to Mexico where things will be safe?!?

If there was some sort of catastrophic fuel shortage she'd be roadblock, robbed and raped before she got 10 miles down the road. And that would be NOTHING compared to what would happen to her in Mexico. Again, a person who doesn't know basic, basic things.

The only one who even had part of a clue was the guy who took the time to study botany so he knew what local plants he could and couldn't eat as well as their medicinal properties. And the show gave him the lowest score because he didn't have a bus full of goats and a bunch of guns. He was also the only one preparing for a realistic event.

My god it keeps getting worse.

Just watched last nights. I could deal with the guy trying to cash in on his "survival shovel" but then he goes and shoots his own thumb off. Some dedicated survivalists here, can't even follow the four basic rules. But I guess it's a learning lesson for everyone else, if you don't follow basic safety rules this IS what can happen and during a survival situation there will probably be no immediate medical attention beyond what you can do for yourself.

Then there was the fireman defending his apartment with broken glass on the door and cheapo swords and knives. A few have some good ideas but a very unrealistic big picture solution.

I get the feeling the whole intent of the series is just to paint anyone involved with guns or any aspect of prepping as a lunatic. Watched some. Agree anyone who would want to be included in this series has at the least poor judgment in my opinion.
