I actually took interest in the guy eating the weeds. At least we could start learning how to live off of
mother nature so we didn't have to stock pile that much.

We might have to reconsider our opinions of some of the other folks on that show. Looks like NatGeo did some creative editing to make the show more interesting.

True, but that will generally be offset by accepting these clowns as experts and following their examples.

Yes - I find that the "Experts" on the show - are a bit soft when giving advice. I'm not so sure I
could be so nice to these preppers.
Therefore the advice given is not very credible. IMO
Agree - that is why I hope they use other methods (not his show) to further their knowledge.

How does the old saying go "tis better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"
he should have realized the liberal media was going to make him out to be an idiot and paint him and all of the others as crazy :ham'r .

There is a guy in the area who teaches a class called "Eat the Weeds". It was a danged interesting course.

Thanx for the info - I'll have to look it up! I'd enjoy learning something like that. Ya never know.
I also thought about starting a youth program about basic survival.....since the girls scouts are so - girly now....
Intoducing them to a guy like this could certainly be an educational field trip.

Don't even get me started on GSA. My 13 year old is disgusted with them and is now an independently registered GS (she wants her Gold Award). As for youths, well for girls under 13 and the 8th grade there ain't much other than GSA. About their only option is 4H. But after they turn 13 and are in the 8th grade they can join a Venturing Crew (co-ed boys scouts). They can also join the civil air patrol. There are options for girls.

I know a lot of "tough" girls out there who are really interested in survival training/self defense instruction.

I've got to get all the basics like Insurance and licensing etc..together first. Then start recruiting.
Playing with fire, knives and firearms might send the Ins sky high though lol...

Pam, I don't know how I can say this whitout it sounding like a back in the kitchen comment , but there are a lot of women these days who are powerful behind a desk and were never taught things like canning, dehydrating and sealing, possibly alternative ways to cook ....... Might consider something on that too
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

My advice then is to start a Boy Scouts of America Venturing Crew and orient the Crew around "outdoors skills". "Outdoors skills" can be such a nifty catch-all phrase. [smilie=033.gif] Crews can be centered around just about any activity. Some are centered on sailing (sea scouts). Others are built on mountain climbing. Venture Scouts are different from Explorers in that Explorers are A) normally associated with a vocation (law enforcement, fire fighting, etc..) and B) kept at arms length from the BSA. The BSA has really tried to distance themselves from Explorers. The benefit of starting a Venture crew is that it comes with all of the BSA insurances, which will save you a butt-ton of money. This helps specifically with firearms instruction. All you have to do is be a BSA / NRA certified instructor and you are good to go. Plus there are mega amounts of logistical, leadership, and organizational support. That is one of the things missing from GSA. Trust me there are a load of girls who are fed up with GSA who wind up in Venturing Crews. If you want more info, send me a PM.
