My advice then is to start a Boy Scouts of America Venturing Crew and orient the Crew around "outdoors skills". "Outdoors skills" can be such a nifty catch-all phrase.

Crews can be centered around just about any activity. Some are centered on sailing (sea scouts). Others are built on mountain climbing. Venture Scouts are different from Explorers in that Explorers are A) normally associated with a vocation (law enforcement, fire fighting, etc..) and B) kept at arms length from the BSA. The BSA has really tried to distance themselves from Explorers. The benefit of starting a Venture crew is that it comes with all of the BSA insurances, which will save you a butt-ton of money. This helps specifically with firearms instruction. All you have to do is be a BSA / NRA certified instructor and you are good to go. Plus there are mega amounts of logistical, leadership, and organizational support. That is one of the things missing from GSA. Trust me there are a load of girls who are fed up with GSA who wind up in Venturing Crews. If you want more info, send me a PM.
