New AR-15 for SHTF

Postby Gregh181 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 2:36 pm

After wanting to build one since the Marines 4 years ago and finally being able to somewhat afford one, I've finally made my dream AR. Its a Bushmaster Patrolman, I took the carrying handle off and put a magpul flip site on it, Eotech 511, magpul CTR stock, Magpul MIAD grip with inner core carrring 3 extra rounds, Magpul enchanched trigger guard, extended charging handle, Magpul BAD lever, quad rail with mapul covers, Magpul angled foregrip, Elzetta light mount (thanks Rentprop) and a streamlight light.

Looks good...did you put a Magpul logo on your truck, too? [smilie=011.gif] I would add a quality sling (and probably cut off that forward sling loop) but other than that it looks well put together.

I did feel like a magpul whore at first but they do make some really good accessories for the AR. Was thinking bout a sling but I'm cutting myself off for a bit accessory wise. I just bought a gunfighter charging handle to replace my current one.

I think you will like the gunfighter latch over that PRI latch that's on it now. I got a loaner upper from someone about a month ago which used the mod4 (medium). I liked it so much that I replaced most of my charging handles with the mod4 now. Those big latches tend to dig into your side and catch on things when you have the rifle slung.

Curious as to why you would cut off the forward sling loop.

Simply don't need it, unless you're using a classic two point sling, but there are much better options. I'd also cut the angled foregrip in half too, but I don't even use one.

Get a sling, trust me. If you ever need it or THINK you need it, having your hands and rifle accessible independently is important. Slings are cheap enough.

if this is your SHTF rifle you will need a sling , get a good 2 point like the Vickers, maybe even the Magpul...lol

Cool rifle man
Take a look at the new Husky sling, made by Ares Gear. And Magpul is coming out with the MS3 sling soon I believe. I havnt tried the Husky yet but seems like a good design and the sling was actually picked up by MARSOC.

I'll be getting a sling eventually, gonna go with a 3 point of some type as that is what I'm most familiar with using.

I would think for a SHTF rifle you would want as little shit hanging off of it as possible.... think low drag

mags get worn on a belt or mag pouch , most make the SHTF mistake of thinking chest rigs, but I have the blend in look over that of military or LEO and keep most of it covered

maybe a light and an optic and thats about it :-k

I bought a magpul MS2 sling and the ASA to go along with it off of ebay. The sling is ok I guess so far, I do like that I can transition from 2 point to 1 point, not sure if im a fan of the 1 point configuration yet. The ASA i got from ebay was a rusted POS that is used for airsoft and was never advertised as such on their item description, pretty pissed off about that one.

The best accessory he can add to the SHTF AR is a case of 1200 rounds of IMI 5.56 ammo.

For under 28cents a round delivered nothing says kill the infidels like ammo from the Holy land

After all WWJS (What would Jesus shoot)??

Personally i would lose the fix front site and get a low gas block and a set of Magpul back up sites, very light weight, go nice with the EOTech (my choice as well).
