Cutting down your original FSB MAY be more reliable than an aftermarket clamp on type. On a quality built rifle, the gas port should line up perfectly, and stay put when banged around due to the pins. I have had clamp on type gas blocks get knocked out of alignment due to use/abuse causing cycling problems.

Wouldn't attaching the foregrip to your gas block defeat the purposs of free floating the barrel?

Yeah. The vertical grip is strictly for CQB use. I bought the free-float forend because it only cost $35 and I like the look. As I said, I’m not sure how much I like the thing.

All I wanna know is.... how do you have that rifle balancing from the magwell on that tripod?

That’s the balance point. No magic involved. I just tilted the tripod head to keep the rifle level.

So after replacing my old castle nut with handling marks all over it with a new one i had to put the Magpul ASAP plate back on and after messing around with the stupid locking key I just left the locking key out and put the ASAP plate and castle nut together, tightened the castle nut real tight with the AR wrench and everything looks and feels good so far. I got the key in once before but man that thing makes me wanna punch a hole in my wall its so frustrating.

I've never seen that problem if the block is installed properly. Plus it looks tacky as hell cut down unless you get a free float that will cover it.

I had a YHM, gas block that had an attached front BUIS torqued to snot that I managed to knock out of alignment, so it can be done. And yes, I agree, they can look cheesey unless done right; like this: lmt-upper-build-with-yhm-rail-and-homemade-gasblock-t67645.html?hilit=LMT
