M14/M1A Magazine Question

Postby FL_Cowboy » Fri Apr 01, 2011 2:27 am

I just purchased a Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad and looking at getting some additional 20rd mags.

44Mag.Com has genuine CMI (Check Mate Industries) 20rd mags. Those are contract overruns for the US Military. They are selling them for $27.00 each. From what I have researched; CMI or Springfield Armory Mags are the way to go and I believe that CMI makes the mags for Springfield anyway.

Sports Mans Guide has a bunch of different mags and does not give a a good photo nor any info on who made the mags. They right now have a 20rd mag for sale at $14.00 a pop. So far there are two pages of good reviews on Sports Mans Guide website. Of course I have no way in knowing if they are true or not. Just wondering if anyone knows about these mags and if they're worth it. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=148200

I don't know about the SPG ones, but I've got a bunch of the CMI mags and they're definitely top notch & built like a tank. I actually got rid of the small handful of "other" mags that I had and am sticking strictly with those now FWIW.

I'm not up on whether CMI actually makes M14 mags for the military but if they are the current issue for the military then get them. An M14 with "other" mags is an M14 with no mags. It requires genuine USGI mags to function properly, especially if it's a shtf rifle. Genuine USGI can be expensive but they're absolutely essential. You can find them on ar15.com but just be aware of what they are. Some sellers think they have genuine USGI but they're ripoffs.

CMI is a great way to go - I am very sure they are true USGI.

SPG catalogs - good for lighting a fire, maybe...
When do I get some stimulation in this economy??

Both are known to have functional problems. Stick with the old USGI or the current CMI mags.
