Its a new AR, but its not classed as a rifle or pistol, merely as a 'firearm' under the ATf similar to the 1927 Thompson, it has a forward grip, pistol grip, you can add a stock or leave it off and a barrel length of only 11some inches so it meets the 26" minimum and is atf legal and requires no SBR/AOW or any stamp?

When I began researching building my SBR AR's I had similar thoughts when reading the laws. Not being one to want to toy with the ATF I filled out my form 1 and went about my builds.
After seeing some of the reversal of decisions by the ATF in the past few years it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

whats the worst thing they will do , confiscate them or parts of them like the ASSkins crapcellerator :-k
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

i get the part about the forward grip and that not making it an NFA item, like adding a pistol grip to a regular pistol. That makes sense, as anyone who's fired an AR or AK pistol will confirm it's not meant to be fired with a single hand.

I'm not sure i'd put a buttstock on that thing though unless the letter from the ATF specifically said that was ok (which it doesn't)

Well now I wouldn't want to be the test case if you stick a stock on that thing if it didn't have a barrel length that was 16" or better. Really don't care what they posted in that regard, as a stocked firearm with a barrel less than 16" is going to get some attention regardless of it's overall length. But hay that's my opinion as the old saying comes to mind, better to be safe than sorry.

still cool, you can always do the old school HK press out on the sling type w/o a stock, old but still works

I also just finished building my first AR SBR and it was cheaper than this, even including my tax stamp...so i really don't see a purpose. Unless maybe you live in a state where they do not allow NFA items.

there has been a lot of talk about the ATF blessing letter only holding weight for the actual person that the letter was addressed to....why not wait and let Franklin Armory be the test case.

that being said I carry the ATF letters ( for the AFG and cane tip ) in my case when I transport my AR pistol, cause you only need to make it past the LEO that inquires , if he accepts the letters you're on your way, if he doesn't, you become the test case [smilie=011.gif]
