Good FAL smith in the N.Central FL area?

For one thing, do you guys think a little rust inside the barrel of a STG58 FAL is a big deal? I don't think it will impair it's shootability much, but my buddy who I sold it to thinks it might. (I'm thinking a good, thorough cleaning will take care of it.) I am planning to buy him a new barrel for Christmas, though - even if only to take away that excuse when he can't keep his groups under 5" #-o .

When I get the barrel, should I tell him to send it back to DSA, or take it to a local smith? If so, who would you guys recommend for a re-barreling and headspacing? Thanks.

I have seen FAL's with what looked like poor barrels and they shot fine.
I have also see bores that where bright and shiny and shot 6 inch groups at 50 yards.

Tell your friend to clean the barrel good and test it with good ball ammo.

From what I understang most STG barrels where NOT chrome lined.

Imbel kits are priced right at this time, it's a good investment for extra parts.

Is Middleburg far for you? The shop that headspaced and timed mine is just west of there. A1 Guns and Ammo, 5089 CR 218, 904-282-4226. Also did an excellent job installing a new match barrel on my Ruger MK3, and did a Duracoat over parkerized refinish on the FN-FAL. He also specializes in M1 Garand work. Closed Mondays.
