Garend stock

Postby Bugsy » Sat May 21, 2011 11:33 pm

Who makes a stock for a garend that's collapsable? I want to make my garend more modern like my ar.

In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

Please tell me Tapco does NOT make a collapsible Garand stock.

Those metal ones are badass but look expensive. I looked at tapco but they don't have anything. I wonder if it would be hard to put an ar stock on the original wood? The pistol grip would be hard though.

It is your rifle and you do to it what you see as fit, but...
There are modern rifles that shoot .30 caliber rounds better and have better gas systems than the M1 or M1A(M14). With the gas system under the barrel raises the bore's axis and increase the perceived recoil impulse.
If you have a Garand in good condition you could sell it to help finance a modern Main Battle Rifle in 7.62NATO. A more economical in the long run way to go. :ber

Those Sage stocks are kinda cool...but I can't imagine any tactical rifle that uses clips, but that's me.

Don't do that to a perfectly designed weapon. If you do John C. Garand, your grandfather, and Clint Eastwood will be disappointed in you. Sorry I am just a purest when it come to WWII vintage weapons, and believe that they should be preserved as living history for generations to come. Now get off my lawn!

Sheesh, even Clint uses a fake one in the movies. Baby Jesus cried when that scene was filmed.

If Clint didn't use a fake Garand, there would be a dozen people on this thread criticizing him for unsafe gun handling. [smilie=011.gif] 99% of the garands used in the filming of Saving Private Ryan beach invasion scene were fake ones. It still doesn't make it a bad movie. Now if they had the Germans carrying 03's and Swastikas on Sherman tanks then you might have a bad movie. [smilie=pdt_xtremez_13.gif]

Oh back to the OP. Don't do it, you have been warned, we will find you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OZS6wem7OQ [smilie=pdt_xtremez_24.gif]

Another reasn not to destroy the value of the gun. Whatever you intend do not make any changes to the gun you can't easily reverse. Do not alter the original stock. Once you destoy the history of the rifle it's expensive and sometimes impossible to get it back. Permanent changes will kill any resale value and later in life you may regret altering dad's beloved rifle.

Trying to make a Garand into a tactical rifle is like trying to make a Eldorado into a Corvette. It can be done with the right resources and ingenuity but not worth it in the end and you will be disappointed with the results. Save up for another AR, AK or SKS and have fun modify it. Much cheaper and in the case of most ARs and AKs you're not altering a historical rifle.
