Im going to go out on a limb and guess your probably young. Right now you dont have the appreciation of a weapon that served its country, defended against tyranny, and been a symbol of american warfare for many, many years.

You will when you get older. If you dont like the gun the way it is, do one of two things....sell it or trade it ( hell ill trade you an ak or ar for it to preserve the poor thing ) or give it a good wiping down with a quality gun oil, and store it away in your closet until you have reached the understanding of the garand that we all do eventually. :ber

It would be perfectly righteous and many folks would be envious if you put it in a BM-59 stock.

Another vote for leaving it as-is here. If you have kids at some point down the road, would they want to receive a hacked up Garand, or one that is as God intended?
