A2 (Fixed Carry Handle) Flip Up Rear Sight ?

Postby XDTim » Sat Oct 08, 2011 12:41 pm

Hey Guys:

Looking for a "drop in" replacement for the standard A2 rear sight. Have an eotech mounted on the forend quad rail so that the iron sights will co-witness thru it. Only problem is that when I use the eotech, the rear sight really limits field of vision. Any suggestions on a flip up unit that I can flip down and out of the way ?

Thanks,

Tim

Never seen a flip-up for an A2 rear. ARMS makes a fold down front that replaces the fixed front.
If you're shooting nose to the charging handle and use the larger rear aperture it shouldn't obstruct it too badly.
You might try toggling the apertures so that neither one is up. Leave them at 45 degree angles and see if you can look over them like that.

Just trying to get some clarification.... Is your rifle a flat top receiver with a non flip A2 sight? Ala LMT:

Or is it a true A2 receiver with a carry handle? Like this:

If it is like the first one, you have many options. I run Troy, A.R.M.S., and Yankee Hill machine, on my ARs. The Yankee hills seem to be a good compromise between durability and price. If you're truly looking for a backup, the Magpul BUIS may be the way to go. They are cheap, and fairly robust. Some love 'em, some hate 'em. I don't have any to form an opinion on. You're welcome to try any of mine out for a test drive if you like. [smilie=cheers1.gif]

If you have a true A2 upper, you don't have any options other than changing the upper for a flat top type ($100+) and then adding a back up sight.

ETA: changing the upper is super easy.
Edited again... I didn't see the clarification of a carry handle type on the original post. Sorry. [smilie=033.gif]

If you decide you want to change your upper to a flat top, buy the upper of your choice. I'd be willing to take your old A2 off your hands and swap it out to your new flat top.

Yeah, I have searched the web pretty thoroughly. I Agree...............Don't believe there is one to be found.

Hey George..........Just to clarify, it is a true A2, so fixed carry handle.

Appreciate the offer to swap, but I really like the traditional A2, as opposed to the flat top with the removable handle.

I found some large aperture rear sights (found a .240 - which is huge) which pretty much solves my problem. That's a nice big hole to look thru to the eotech.

Tim

if you wanna keep the A2 sight and get away from the carry handle

there is an option to Georges' offer to help you out of your carry handle upper [smilie=011.gif]

should you wanna put an A3 or flat top on there, just in case you change your mind down the road, but it gets a little pricey
