FAL availability question

Postby Crashpanic » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:30 pm

I've got a good trusted friend that will sell me an almost complete FAL parts kit for $250. It's an Argentine metric kit with a mint barrel. Sharp rifling, he says it is in decent shape overall. My question is, how is receiver availability these days? Are they hard to get these days? Is there a long waiting list? Any good sources?

I appreciate your responses, gentlemen.

Receivers are available. They're just on the expensive side.

DSA is running a deal for FALfiles members. http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=274676

$310 + shipping.

Also watch the Marketplace on the FALfiles.com and the EE on AR15.com

BTW, that's an excellent price for a kit. However, unless you have the tools, be prepared to shell out some money bucks.

And! You can't forget compliance parts. That could run up to several hundred bucks depending on which parts you use.

$250 for a decent parts kit with a bbl is a good price. Hell, decent bbls are going for $150-200 right now.

DSA is the place to go for an easy to build receiver.(entreprise arms, century, Ohio Rapid Fire, Olympic Arms, WAC, and Coonan all make receivers that are cheaper, but have some documented issues and less than stellar records) DSA also has the best resale value, and usually stands behind warranty issues with their receivers. About $300 or so plus shipping and background check. Pick up a gas piston, furniture, and mag parts (floorplate and follower) or a DSA 20rd mag and you're compliant. Less than $100 on those if you know where to look, and haunt the EE on Arf.com and Falfiles.com.

You'll have about $6-700 into a complete rifle on a premium receiver.

Need tools? Guys on here and Falfiles.com have them, and will usually lend a hand. I've got a receiver wrench, barrel vise, and headspace gauges. Even a bolt tool.

If you pass on the kit, let me know. I'm always looking for parts.

And listen to FrenchKat. He helped me barrel my first receivers, and convinced me that buying the tools was the way to go.
