eBay is a rip off

Postby Kory » Mon Feb 20, 2012 7:50 pm

I have not used eBay in a few year and forgot how bad it is for sellers. They get you for 9% on top the listing fees then Paypal smacks you again on the back side. Their shipping calculator was off so I paid them and lost money to sell something I had little money into. Sorry I just had to rant a little.

I recently tried to list something and wanted to be paid
by USPSMO...no go...then I tried to be paid through
my service merchants account for all CC's....no go.

It seems to be their way or the highway.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yup, I have pretty much stopped selling. Between the ebay fees and the ebay owned paypal fees it is redonculous. Now if you have a regular paypal account the buyer can pay by bank account and you see no fees. But if it is by credit card....hello my rapist. I have a business paypal account so I get raped every time.

I think that Amazon is tearing them apart so hopefully the fees drop.

Years back when we started selling parts we put them on Ebay.

We sold a bunch in a short period of time and I guess we were flagged. Well Ebay decided they didn't like us selling
gun parts and froze our accts - including Pay Pal with MY money in it. $6000 of my money was tied up for 3 months....
Plus we had to scramble and figure out how to get the money that was due and how to get a hold of customers
to ship while our accts were frozen... a big headache. Needless to say - I am not a fan of either. They can pound sand. [smilie=014.gif]

When they raised their rates about 4-5 years ago I stopped selling on there. They suuuuck. A lot! I haven't used ebay for a couple of years other than to scope out vehicles or boats, but a lot of folks seem to have stopped using them as the selection has gone down hill. Craigslist classifieds, Amazon, or plain old google for something I need to order. I also tend to use either the same vendors I've used in the past or trusted ones that sponsor forums I participate in...

I have been doing a bunch of sales on there lately..not a big fan but its consistant and I have been pricing my stuff accordingly. The BS with holding funds in paypal is pissing me off though. I have a few hundred bucks in there I cant touch until either I get positive feedback, items have been delivered and they wait three days with proof of delivery, or 21 days goes by if the first two dont happen. They were supposed to re-evaluate my account every 35 days but its been a couple months and its still the same.

I sell coins and stamps sometimes on eBay. As most sellers do, I price accordingly to account for the brutal fees. It hurts but if you need to sell something, there are 1000s of buyers out there. Just depends on how much you have in an item.

^ exactly why I left years ago. Made a shit load of money in middle/high school selling all kinds of stuff. But there fees have gotten to rich for my blood. Now I stick to forums (specific to what your selling helps) and just word of mouth, facebook, craigslist etc.

funny to see this. i just got off the phone with them a few hours ago because they locked my account after not paying my sellers fees. i called them last month when it happened and i was told SORRY IT WAS A PROBLEM ON OUR END ITS ALL FIXED. this month i got the same email now with my account locked. i called and this guy said he found the problem " on there end again" i told him thats what i was told last month and if it happens again i will just keep my money since they dont seem to want it :ham'r .

anyway i also bitched about taking a percentage of shipping fees and was told they did it to stop the people selling items cheap and making money on shipping fees to avoid being charged on the auction end of the sales. i told him that was [smilie=042.gif] and they need to find a better way. i lost money on shipping the last 3 items i sold because they are now taking a percentage of that too. he said there working on a program to find auctions with high shipping fees. i told him i am done selling till the greediness stops. he said he was sorry i felt that way. i told him i am sorry i feel that way to. they know they have the market cornered

They do in a way but as a previous member said, Amazon is also a great community to sell things. Unfortunately their private seller interface pales in comparison to eBays.

Some of my customers get a lil bent when they find out we don't accept Pay Pal.
Until I explain to them what happened to us. And I push the issue that they are
Anti-Gun and they use your money to help fund Anti-Gun issues. I hope everyone cancels their accts.
