CWP Issues

Postby speed_racer » Fri Jan 06, 2012 11:08 pm

Long story short, I sent in my application a LONG time ago.

About 2 months after sending in my application I did an online change of address form online.

I then called them to confirm they hadn't sent out the license yet, and that they confirmed receiving the change of address.

I never get the permit for months and months...

So, I send in $15 with a notarized letter and copy of my id. (I "screwed up" and didnt put a new address ON THE LETTER, assuming they would use the address from the license copy)

This was last October... So I see more posts come up about 10 day to 4 week turnarounds, its now January, so I call in today...

The lady explains they got my letter, but because it didnt include a new address ON THE LETTER that they sent it to my address on file.

I ask her to verify what current address they have for me... and she gives me the original address that I put on the original application...

So I tell her to look up that Ive sent in a change of address, she confirms that they got the original change of address in MAY but somehow didn't update it in the system...

So TWICE they sent my CWP to an address that I had changed and confirmed AT LEAST a month before the original issue....

Finally now she connected all the dots in their system and is sending out my CWP to my correct address... says give it 7-10 days... what a JOKE!!!

So you've been relying on a mean-mug and a limp to keep you safe all this time? [smilie=011.gif]

Lol, I keep a pistol in the car, and a Spyerco Civilian in my pocket at all times... Been anxiously awaiting for the CWP but was told by many not to pester them or they're known to "move you to the bottom of the pile".

So I just waited patiently... until I had no more patience...

I hated going thru the holiday season without being able to carry... Seems to be the time that brings the worst out in people.

Glad you finally got it worked out. Bureaucracy is a mf. I just renewed my CWP 2 weeks ago. I sent the renewal form with a new photo and I had my new license in under 2 weeks. I couldn't believe it!

FWIW, I send all of that type of correspondence "certified mail". All those mail-in-rebates bullshit, yep, certified. I want a paper-trail so they can't give me the "we didn't receive it" bs.

Well by your own post above you said you screwed up too, so just call it even and lets hope you see your license in 10 days or less. Oh and in Florida, it's a CWL ;)

CWP = Concealed Weapons Permit...

I guess you're saying its a Concealed Weapons License? Now I know , thanks!!!

I said I 'screwed up' being facetious. They should know the address on your DL is the address you want. Also it was the ship from address on the certified letter I sent in. I didn't know everything had to spelled out for the monkeys in Tallahassee . ;)

Just messing with ya, but yes in Florida its a license and not a permit.

And to make it worse we could call it a CWOF = Concealed Weapon Or Firearm License (<<< that is what is on the card), but you wouldn't know that would you [smilie=011.gif]? Again messing with you about not knowing, well because you don't have the card yet [smilie=madeyes.gif] . Just trying to make light of things, smile be happy, you'll get it.

Why wouldn't the post office simply forward the letter with the new license to your new address? OR do you have a problem there too?

Long story short the house I was staying at was a studio apartment detached from the people's house. I had my mail at the time forwarded to my old ladies parents which was 3 doors down.

Because I didn't want issues between the different DL address and my mailing address I set it up to be mailed there. And that as the ONLY thing to be mailed there.

In hind sight I should have put in a COA form for the old address, but as I had only supplied it for my DL (Which I updated immediately) and my CWL (which I updated immediately) I didnt see it as a necessity.

All the more reason to apply in person at one of the regional offices. The students that I have certified and sent to the regional office here in Jacksonville say the people running the place are helpful and turn around time on their CWL is 2 weeks or less.

This seemed like a good thread for a post of this nature.

I completed my cwl class today. It was lame. The instructor was very accredited and was a member of everything that has to do with guns. He talked more about the NRA then he taught about carrying.
The class was supposed to be 4 hrs we were done in 2. That's including range time for 6 people. The only 2 things learned was when I'm shooting I tend to lean back, when I leaned into the shot I shot very accurately. I also (re)learned that when cleaning my auto to lightly swab the inside of the barrel.

The instructor in fairness was new but instead of covering all the bases to the basic pistol course he instead elected to keep asking if anyone had any questions. Next time I'm going to the tire\brakes\auto-care and oil change shop for my $65 classes.

Just saying.
