GOT IT! Wow, just as nice looking as jmikeb653's.
This is a Service Grade, HRA with new CMP wood. Barrel is HRA dated 5-55 and looks to be unfired. Barrel and Serial number put it as an original HRA barrel and receiver match. Trigger housing assembly, hammer, safety, operating rod and rod housing, and sights are HRA and period correct. SA bolt. Everything is HRA except the bolt. I guess to get the correct bolt, you'd have to order a "Correct Grade" and pay the bucks for it. Great rifle. I have had a Danish in the past and this one beats that, hands down. For $595 +shipping this is a deal! Very nice CMP case, too!
In all probability, the rifle was a Greek loaner, and most likely it was never issued - then returned to the good ole USA and then to the armory for some work. Many of the post war H&R's went to Greece.
If you are waiting to get one from CMP. DON'T! These are great rifles in wonderful condition. Their turn around time is shockingly short now. I'm not concerned that mine has new wood. The other's I've had from CMP had serious issues with the wood from being gouged, or mismatched color - to compressed wood in the trigger assembly area. I'm looking for a nice shooter for the Garand matches but I'm tempted to "safe queen" this bad boy for a while.
Yellow, CMP hang tag states: Muzzel reading: 1; Throat Reading: 2; Rifle Grade: G-3.
Flashooter22: Still got an HRA bolt hanging around?
