Centre punches.

Anyone recommend a place and a kit to buy centre punches? Will be changing my stock trigger guard soon.
Thanks.

Do you mean pin punches? If so, Harbor Freight has 5 piece set for about $7.

a center punch is used to mark steel before you drill it, so the drill bit doesn't skip around ( walk ) under the pressure of the drill

or when Rentprop hits you in the center of the face [smilie=011.gif]

I think what Mikecu linked is what you may want to use
In the days of the old west a 6 shooter was as common as cell phones are today and just annoying if they go off in a theater.

then again, if you're talking about the trigger guard, it's a roll-pin and you really should have the right punches for those or they're easy to bugger up.

Not suggesting they have to come from here, but this'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=5551 ... IN-PUNCHES

Ideally, for working on guns you'd have 3 sets of punches:
1) Long pin punches like Mikey posted
2) a shorter version of same (lets you get more force on them to get stubborn pins started without bending the punch, esp . in the smaller diameters)
3) roll pin punches like those up there ^^^

oh, and make sure you support that part of the receiver with a bench block or hunk of wood or something so it doesn't snap off. [-X

Thanks. I read about using a wood support block. Wouldn't want to break the ears off. Ouch.

Home Depot sells a 3 pack set too.

They do make a special "roll pin punch" that is ball shaped on the end to fit into roll pins. That's the real tool you're supposed to use, but i've just used regular punches for changing out the trigger guard.

I have a broken drill bit and a block of wood I use to Press the trigger guard pin out in my vise. It sounds ghetto, but I can't bring myself to whack away on a lower to drive a pin out. I also press my pins back in as well.
Half of my resolutions to problems come with a cold sweat somewhere around 2 am.

Any particular direction for the pin that is located near the mag well?
I tried the ghetto approach earlier but stopped before doing any damage.
