Brother got his gun stolen

Postby Brandon H. » Mon Feb 20, 2012 9:35 am

My brother in law who lives in Boca (member on here too), just got off the phone with me. Someone got into his car last night and stole his CZ. He states he is not sure if it was locked because there is no damage to the car. He is going to go report the serial to the cop, they say he has to be there in person so he has to wait untill after work and there is nothing they can do.

Has this happend to anyone? What should he do? He said he is using something to open the door so they can finger print it.

If they got in, chances are it was unlocked.

The kids around here regularly go out at night and tug door handles, looking for that payday. The best you can hope for is that it turns up in a pawn shop, or someone runs their mouth about it. Otherwise, kiss it goodbye.

And next time, lock the danged thing up, properly, when he leaves the car.
Both the car and the gun.

I always leave my car unlocked because I drive a convertible. But you can be darned sure I'm not stupid enough to leave a firearm --- or anything of value, for that matter --- in an unlocked car.

The bloody mind boggles . . . !

Haw!
And does he leave guns laying around the place and the door to this house unlocked, too.
Curious minds just want to know, of course.

I dont care if he left the car unlocked or not. Someone shouldn't have been going through his shit.

Sure, prudence would say to lock your shit up, but not being prudent doesnt give someone the right to be a thief.

I remember one time driving over to my brother in laws house with the top down. He lives in Jupiter Farms. I parked in the driveway of his house. Left the top down. There were family in and out of the house all day. Hanging in the backyard drinking beers 50 feet from my car.

At the end of the night, I went out and someone had taken everything out of my glovebox and center console and dumped it into the car.

Luckily all they got was some pocket change and a flashlight, but I wouldnt blame myself, and shouldnt have to. Sure, I could have locked up my car, but I shouldn't HAVE to.

Yes...yes...we need to be responsible with our firearms and valuables. BUT IT STILL IS THE THIEF"S FAULT.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

No question about that and maybe if thieves would be treated as they once were, in more so called primitive societies, they would be less of a problem.
There would certainly be less thieving.

Not necessarily. A well known FSN member lost a couple HK handguns from his locked vehicle a few years back. It's actually kinda amazing how fast criminals get into some vehicles. And it wasn't just him, they hit a lot of his neighbors.

If you have the right tools, it takes 30-90 seconds getting in depending on the car. And if done by a pro you wont see any marks on the car.

Lesson learned don't leave a gun in your car. I live in a good neighborhood. I take my gun with me into my house every night.
Good luck to your brother finding his gun.

I got chewed out by a sheriff' deputy for allowing a toolbox to be stolen from my vehicle. Apparently, unless I spend an hour unloading anything of value from my vehicle, anything inside is free. The criminal, of course, bears no responsibility in this because he is forced to steal because I left my possessions in such a tantalizing situation.

And, yeah, stolen out of a locked car without breaking anything. Mine wasn't the only locked car that got hit that night.
...and they think I'm compensating for something?

From personal experience, don't rely on the cops to notify you should the gun be recovered. Call them every couple of months with the case #. I had a gun stolen in unincorporated Palm Beach County. It was recovered in the town of West Palm Beach, but nobody called me, even after 15 months. The 2 police departments blamed each other for not calling me. In the end, because I called the sheriff, I was told the gun was recovered. I went to the city the next day to pick it up. Good luck in getting it back. GARY N4KVE

I'm not totally opposed to one of those little lockboxes in the car, but the guy who breaks in the car will probably have a screwdriver with him.

If he's someone who has gone out that night with the sole purpose of breaking into vehicles, yes, he probably will have some tool with him.

If it's some kid just trying handles for the heck of it, maybe not. And those are the little criminals people are enabling by leaving doors unlocked with valuables inside.

Then, of course, there was the case several years ago of the New York motorist who was fed up with having his window smashed and his radio/stereo/whatever stolen when he parked overnight. So he got a car without a radio and left a large message in the window that read: "No Radio Inside." He came down one morning to find the window smashed anyway, with a notice that read: "Just checking."

If he forgets to lock the car, what makes you think he's going to remember to put the gun in the little box and lock it?

And if it's just kids trying unlocked cars, why couldn't he lock it in the glove box?

I hope the bastard who took it shoots himself in the foot.

Ive been told about thieves hitting dog parks, in broad daylight, in palm beach county. All the women there like to leave their purses in their car, I guess since they are literally only feet away and can easily see their car from where they stand. The thieves drive up as if theyre going to park and visit the dog park, thief in passenger side seat gets out breaks a couple windows and snatches their purses, with everybody walking around in the dog park and sitting on benches, totally unaware of whats going on.

And just the other day I read of a woman in PBC who went to pick up a order from a resteraunt, in broad daylight, who was only inside the resteraunt for a couple of minutes. When she returned her car window was smashed and her purse was stolen.

I know this is a bit unrelated, but these thieves are getting ballsy.
