with a CCW, you can generally carry an autoknife on your person the same as any conceal firearm.

Yes you can carry a auto knife in FL. The only stipulation is if you buy one say online it can't be shipped across state lines to FL legally unless you are mil/leo/fire. Otherwise you are supposed to buy one in state. Stupid law.

I carry a HK tumult as a compainion to my carry gun.

My understanding is that you don't need a permit to be carrying an autoknife but it will "help" if you get some dumb shit cop who doesn't know the law.

That said I don't see the need for an auto.

Yes you can carry an auto knife. Yes you can buy one across state lines. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago from assistedknife.com. I have also shopped at knifeoutlet.
Both ship without any question or argument. Both carry everything from $10 cheapies to $300-$400 high quality pieces. You can also search for auto knife kits. There is a company that I got my first one from that sells the springs. Many or the regular push-button release manual folders are easily converted to automatic. My first was a S&W with an $8 spring from assistedknife.

I think you're confusing ballistic knives with auto knives. A ballistic knife launches the blade at the target and becomes two seperate pieces. These are illegal to own in Florida. An auto knife is a knife that uses a spring assist to open the blade but the blade stays attached to the handle. Autos are legal in Florida.

Check the law. You cannot have a auto-knife as in a OTF automatic shipped to you across state lines unless you are fire/mil/Leo. However almost every knife company online will ship to you anyway. I don't see why it's a big deal as it's legal in FL anyway. I think 888knivesrus or whatever it is, is located in FL :ber

Also and this is VERY important. Many of the states wit reciprocity for Fls CWP DO NOT cover auto knives, daggers, push knives and other self defense weapons that Fl does. I carry a Cold Steel Safe Keeper push knife that's legal in fl but as soon as I cross the Ga line it's illegal.

Very true and often missed. Florida's is a concealed weapons permit. Many states are concealed firearms only. Doesn't cover anything else, including knives. Makes even less sense than the majority of what government agencies do.

Auto knives are illegal to carry in Miami-Dade county.
Florida's preemption does not cover knives.

I carry the older Cold Steel "Defender" with the leather sheath. Sharp enough to shave with. It is a wicked weapon to carry concealed.
