One of my closest friends has one and put a bunch of performance doodads on it. Puts out close to 550hp and will smoke most anything on the road. It is one fast SUV.

Yeah, it would have to be an used one.
Still better than any Chrysler product.

Speaking of Mercedes, the new Grand Cherokee and Durango are both built on Mercedes chassis.
A left over agreement between Chrysler and their former owners.
That has to help.
From everything that I could find, the complaints of Chrysler products don't include these two or the separately managed truck division products.

I don't have any experiance with the new Jeeps but I've bought the kids 2 96s over the tears the in 4x2 was traded in for the 4500 Obammer cash for one of the boys, had 200k on it only problem was it ate computers every 25 K. Then got a 96 limited with the v8 full time 4x4. Only prob with that one was a AC valve got stuck and the AC only comes out on the floor and defroster. The one thing that bugger does do is handles like a sports car. We played with a BMW Z8 while we were hunting the the mountains of NC this winter (it was unseasonable warm) and stayed right on the guys bumper for many miles. I really don't think the fella really knew how to drive the twisties very well he was doing a lot of breaking in the corners while I was barely touching the break. And for a woods truck it can't be beat when the terrine gets steep and icy. I'm looking for a 02 Grand Cherokee (last year of the in line 6) in select track 4x4. The v8s fun but it does like the gas station.

My buddy has a SRT8 and he goes through brakes like paper. Always replacing brakes. So expensive. Tires are a ripoff too.

For $60k, I'd buy a $40k Chevy Tahoe and put $20k in modifications in it (suspension & drivetrain), it will be quicker than a SRT8 plus it'd look better too!

No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!

As for speed, not on the road and not offroad unless you do a lot of work.

"Jeep" and "junk" both start with a "J". [smilie=011.gif]
...and they think I'm compensating for something?
