Alcohol Rehab & CCW

Postby tcpip95 » Sat Jan 21, 2012 3:40 pm

John Doe had an alcohol problem one year ago and checked himself into a rehab center for 30 days. This was totally voluntary on John's part. He completes his 30-day alcohol abuse treatment program and comes home. John has no criminal background - not even a parking ticket.

Can John ever get a CCW license in Florida?

If yes, is there a waiting period or any other specifics that he needs to adhere to (i.e. medical certificate, etc.)?

EDIT: added "if yes, is there a waiting period or any other specifics that he needs to adhere to (i.e. medical certificate, etc.)?"

I don't think a voluntary admission would keep you from being eligible. Go ahead and have him apply. Or, if you want, I can PM you my phone and you can call me.

This really is a hypothetical question. As I was reviewing the pre-qual questionaire I saw that they had a question about alcohol rehab. I found that there is a "previous 3-years prior to application" clause, but I can't tell if that would apply to someone who voluntarily entered a program (vs. someone who was ordered by the courts to enter a program).

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not quite sure how this would affect his application whatsoever, taking into consideration that he has no legal record of drug or alcohol abuse. (No more than one DUI convictions during the previous 3 years, no history of alcohol related arrests.)
