aimpoint comparison chart

Postby neverenoughguns » Sun Feb 24, 2008 1:33 pm

Wasn't there a comparison chart of the different aimpoint models on this board at one time? If anyone knows where this is, I would appreciate a link to it. Thank you.

Thank you for posting the link. The compc3 looks like a real bargain and I like the idea that it is 2x and it comes w/ the mount right out of the box. I suppose the decision should be based on what I intend to do w/ the rifle/carbine and I don't have an answer for that right now. The Sig 556 does not come w/ real sights.... and for some reason I am under the impression that I really need one of these rifles.

Thanks for the link, Rob. I think that finally pushed me over the edge to buy an Aimpoint instead of an Eotech: if I understand correctly, you can basically leave the Aimpoints on a normal brightness setting constantly and still only have to change the batteries (at most) once a year or so. The Eotech... not so much. Leaving the 552 on would cost you new batteries every 1.3 months. And I was surprised to see that the Eotech is actually heavier than most of the Aimpoints.

I have another chart that deals with life-cycle costing comparing the "savings" people think they get with the Eotech vs. the money they spend on batteries. I don't post it much because it results in all sorts of billt-type hysterical responses.

If they ever were, they aren't anymore
http://lightfighter.net/eve/forums/a/tp ... 3061052053

To sum up, the thread is full of professional warfighters talking about the problems they've had with their Eotechs and the crap service they received from the company when the product failed in-theater.

No matter what you think of the product, I won't do business with a company that hangs our fighting men out to dry.

I have no idea whether L-3 is good people or not; I was just poking a little fun at Billt's last thread.

Anyway, I couldn't get to your link without becoming a member of lightfighter, but it's obviously not good if they don't adequately support the Eotechs they put in our soldiers' hands. However, L-3 is an enormous defense contractor that may put a lot of good tech into the fight, and Eotech is a small part of their business.

My personal experience, had an Eotech, darn thing eats batteries like a drunk guzzling beer.

Now the Comp3 2x I have I absolutely think it's about as good an around optic you can get, giving you that little bit of maginfication old eye's need. Helps with head shots on pork chops at 100 yards no problem. The big plus, I haven't changed the batteries in 2 or 3 years, I can't remember off hand, senile I guess. Do know I left it on for 2 or 3 weeks by accident one time and it just kept on going, but hay YMMV.

You can have at least 2 H1 aimpoints for the price of one ACOG. And the battery has a really long life so this is not an issue.

I had a 512 for a year and a half and had zero problems...original set of batteries. I did rotate it out and bought an ML3 a few weeks ago. I deliberately left it on, and will do so until the battery dies. Eotech has 1100 hours of use, Aimpoint 50k hours. The Aimpoint is a basic reflective sight, while the Eotech is holographic and more accurate from off angle. I do plan on getting a 516 for my second AR, but trust the Aimpoint for duty use. 2MOA.

IIRC Eotechs will shut off if they are left on for a while.

If you turn on an Eotech with the down button, it turns off in four hours. Up button, eight hours.

Whohoo! First post here! Great site.

I had an Aimpoint C3. It is 99% of what all the other Aimpoints are for a lot less money. I'd only get a military model if I were serious about nightvision or I was planning on scuba diving with it. [smilie=011.gif] Because that's all they've got over the C3. (I'm gussing the C3 will probably work with NV too since the first 4 settings are nearly invisible, but it isn't advertised as such).
